Hi Folks

yes, in my last post I said my studies with NIGS were coming to an end but then I found some courses to keep me enjoying my times with NIGS including a new Scottish course coming up inva few months so I am now selecting four more courses and if more Scottish and Italian courses are scheduled I will be involved.

Meanwhile, I have a study on passengers on the Torilla (1911) and Roscommon (1912) arriving in Brisbane, Australia so if you have any connection please contact me. All good fun.

Hi Folks

yes, it has been a busy time with both study and research since I last posted in 2018. I am now ending my studies with NIGS until more courses are available on Scotland and Itsly. Meanwhile, I have commenced a research project on passengers who came to Australia on the two ships my parents arrived. My initial research has a focus on those arriving in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia with a view of establishing if any families had contact prior to departure or after arrival. I have another project planned as a same name surname study covering the period from about 1885 to 1912 but this will all take time. However, if any of you had passengers on the Roscommon in 1912 or the Torilla in 1911 please contact me.

Cheers

Brian

Hi Folks

My mother was Margaret Kant Russell born in Glasgow in 1905 and came to Australia in 1912. Her father was Joseph Kant Russell (1880-1921) and her mother was Catherine Gilchrist (1876-1949). Other surnames in her pedigree back to the early 1800s are Johnston, Love McLachlan, Sawers, Primrose, Wilson and McNish.

I am just starting to research my Scottish roots and really don't know where to begin. I am researching my g-g--grandfather James Russell who left Lanarkshire in 1854 and settled in Hay township, Huron County, Ontario. He worked for a railroad in Scotland. I have quite a bit of information about his descendants in Canada.

I have just begun my search with the Russell line. My father was born in Venango County Pennsylvania. His father, Clarence John Russell, was born in Indiana. His parents were Charles Russell and Effie Newton. They moved to Texas then to Venango County. Some of my grandfathers sisters remained in Texas. My great grandparents moved back to Texas and were there when they died. My grandfather remained in the Oil City, Pennsylvania area and married Velma Lucille Felmlee.

I have two different RUSSELL lines ... my maternal RUSSELL line ended up in Colorado. They were originally as far as I can trace from Venango County, Pennsylvania. That line consists of .... Martha Ann Russell born 1931 in Colorado and died 1997 in Indiana. Daughter of John Wallace Russell and Virgina Alberta Bondurant. John Wallace Russell was born in 1899 in Venango County, Pennsylvania and died in 1952 in Colorado. John was the son of Plumer Dean Russell and Anna Elizabeth Wallace.

My paternal RUSSELL line I don't know quite as much about ... but here goes ... Francis "Sissy" Russell married Daniel Saylor in Harlan County, Kentucky.

I am trying to find the birth of Ann Russell. Ann Married Jeffrey Collier in 1771 at Hilmarton Wiltshire. I think she may have been born around 1751? making her 20 when she married.
I also would like her parents names if any one can help I would appreciate it.
Thank you
