Hi Kevin!

In my experience it's always good to think of different ways to spell the surname. In those days most people couldn't spell so they sounded the name out. Good Luck!

Looking for anyone interested in Samuel Robinson from Ohio and his wife Elizabeth Marsh from New York.  Their kids were born between 1828 and 1842 in Lawrence County, OH and Athens County, OH.  If this rings a bell with any of you please let me know.  I've seen the name also spelled as Robison, Robeson, Roberson and Robertson ... from legal documents in the 1860's I'm thinking Robison is probably the correct spelling, but I figured it was worth a try posting here in case I'm wrong!

pamela, thank you for your sugesstions. I have looked at the younger Alexander 's Find a grave site. It had some information from his obituary, nothing much about his dad. I Know there was at least one possibly, two older brothers that came to the US before his mom ,his sister, and he did. I did join an Ulster Irish genealogical group , but much of the information available there is a charge for and I'm not yet ready to pay. Did find at least an idea of where they were living, but nothing about the father's death. thanks again for your suggestions. I may be going up to Edgar County , close to Clay . I''ll have to check their library and records if I do go. you have been helpful, thanks Maryg

Hi Mary!

Sometimes you find information in obituaries. Also,by writing a Letter to the Editor you might find out what cousins who still live in the area that might know about Alexander's parents in Ireland. There are also several Irish online sites.  I must admit that I feel it's harder to "cross the pond" as they say. Also, the Wayne County library might have a biography about Alexander the son's family history that will talk about his Irish grandparents.

Anybody else have any other suggestions? Good Luck!

Hi Pamela, Thanks for the suggestions. But it wasn't the son who came to Wayne County, that I trying to find more about. It is his father who died and was buried in County Fermanagh Ireland in 1848. I'm hoping to find who his parents were. The son Alexander moved to Clay County Illinois. He was married 3 times and had several children. His son by his first wife Nancy Baylor was John William Robinson, my great grandfather. I was hoping there might be someone who might know who the senior Alexander 's parents were.
