Just checking to see if anyone is still working on the Tyre and Frances Chaffin family. David Isaac Chaffin was born in 1837 and married Mary Upchurch.

Hi

I just wanted to get back with you and find out if you would still be willing to go out to the  Laurel Cemetery and take pictures of the Sackhoff tombstones (maternal family).  I would be most appreciative.  My husband has been diagnosed with ALS and we have been just reeling.  I also had hoped that I could connect my paternal family through a DAR connection but haven't been able to collect the documentation needed.  I will resend all of the names if you are able to do it later this year. Evelyn

Thanks so much for being so helpful. I really thought if I had Christian's first name I would be able to find him entering the US.  There are actually two Christian Sackhoff's listed on ancestry.com but both came into the country after my relative.  Have a good week.  Evelyn

Records of the Third Protestant Memorial Church of Cincinnati, formerly known as the Third German Protestant Memorial Church, the German and Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed Church, and the North German Lutheran Church. Includes records of baptisms, marriages, deaths, confirmations, along with financial records and a few photographs - volumes are at the library in their archives at the University of Cincinnati.  I continue to search. GLAD you are doing Christmas decorating at your house. We have had snow flurries today in ATL!!  Evelyn

WOW! I am so impressed that you found out my relative's first name was Christian. No one in my family had that information. NOW maybe I can find out their information on their arrival in America. Since I've been looking under the first name Heinrich.  I would love to have a picture from the Laurel Cemetery next year!! Thanks so much for your detective work tonight.  I will check the URLs you recommended tomorrow.  THANKS so much for your help!!  Evelyn

Hi. Thanks for the reply back.  My relative was Elmer Frank Sackhoff born 8/23/1887  Died 9/12/1943. Buried at Laurel Cemetery. There was no picture of his tombstone just the entrance. Some day I plan to make a trip to the Cincinnati area. Regards Evelyn

HI

THANKS so much. That is exactly the kind of help I am looking for.

I saw that you took pictures of one of the cemeteries where I have family members.

I am specifically looking for Heinrich Henry Sackhoff  B. 1820 - Prussia

Died Jan 7,1870  Cin, OH-Hamilton CO
internment 4-18-1870

Section 7, lot 64.

BUT I don't know which cemetery in Hamilton County and I don't know his date of birth.

Augusta Kisner, Krohne or Krohn Sackhoff  B. 1882 Prussia

wife- they married Feb 24, 1846 at the North German Lutheran Church

Died October 27, 1893

Interment 10/30/1893

Cemetery??

I'm a member of ancestry.com so I have the census data, directory info from Cincinnati and their children's names from their baptismal information from their church membership. Any additional information about my great great grandparents would be "greatly" appreciated. I also do not know when they arrived. Family lore is that they landed at New Orleans and came up the Mississippi. Searched hundreds of ship manifests with no luck.

With regards Evelyn

But I have the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana relative issue.. One family is on Ohio .. one lived iN dearborn forever and one setteled Boone county... Oh by the way.. Back in 1950---- I was related to over 50% of the people in Henry County. Most from the Chaffin and Upchurch families.
A few years ago, one of the Chaffin was sheriff of Henry County for many years..

Lori,
The most of the info on Tyre Chaffin was written by Ida Lou Miller Sims, the grandaughter of George Mallory Chaffin for 'First Families of Henry County, Ga'.
She had gotten some info from Mrs Charle Cannon, Jr, James Otis Rodgers, Martha Virginia Rodgers Falls, tombstones and Bible records.
Ida Lou had a much younger brother, Ben Miller(my age) that passed away 3 years ago and his wife, Joann Floyd Miller is working on the updating of the 'First Families of Henry County, Ga.' Joann Miller is on the board of the "The Genealogical Society of Henry & Clayton Counties".
There library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9AM to 3PM phone 770-954-4456.
Enjoy your family reunion.. they can be fun..

I'm New at this.. Something like FaceBook..
My great Grandmother was Lucinda Chaffin Upchurch. All of her children are not listed on your web site.. Back in the late 1960's when the ladies was trying to get all the records together for the book 'First Families of Henry County, GA", my grandfather Jesse Upchurch refuse to help them, so they left him out of the book. My uncle, Jesse's youngest son is now about 83 years old and just like his dad. I thinks he has the Tyre Chaffin' Bible but refuse to let anyone see it and photo or copy any of the old pictures that his has.. He won't let his children look at them..
I can fill in some of your blanks..
Britton Upchurch and Jasper Upchurch was brothers.
A group of ladies are working on updating the 'First families of Henry Co GA".
Will write more later..

My dad's family was there for 4 generations on one side and 5 on the other. I will pass your comment on next time I talk with him. :-)

Both the ones of your husband's family and yours are lovely. Last year I found a distant cousin online who had photos of many in one of my lines that I hadn't ever seen photographs of before - it was so nice to see what they looked like. I think photos really add an extra dimension to our research.

When groups are designated by a geographical region I'm often unsure about whether the smaller area I'm researching is included. :-) Now that you have told me Hamilton County is one of the ones in SW OH, I will join your group too. It says in your profile that you are in the Cincy area - that is where my father grew up.
