Brenda,  Is your Issac Cooper name actually Issac Newton Cooper?  One of his sons is Cyrus Jolley Cooper?   Cyrus was born in Indiana and Issac Newton Cooper was born in Kentucky, maybe.   Issac Newtons wife was Ketturah White and that is as far as I can go on the Cooper side.  I think it might be a Cooper family somewhere in Southeastern Kentucky.

Hello to all. I am new to genwise. My 3x ggrandfather was Isaac Cooper born in Va died in Harrison county Indiana in 1831. Does anyone out there have anything on this line. I have hit a very hard brick wall. Not sure who is wife was and have found nothing on his parents. Any and all info or ideas where to look would be very appreciated.

Hey Josh,

There's a Cooper genealogy, compiled by a Wayne W. Wright, online associated with the James Fenimore Cooper Society.  It has my line down to my grandfather, Frederick Oliver Thompson, and his brother, Oliver P. Thompson. This genealogy goes back to the original emigrant James Cooper who married Hester.... her last name may have been White, but I may be wrong.. Check it out. Later, Thom

I don't know of any DNA testing in my family, but from the chart on the Cooper family which is quit extensive on the descendants of James and Hester Cooper. I know that a couple of lines descended from them meander south, in the early 17 hundreds to first to Virgina and then to the Carolinas from Pennsylvania, and I understand thru the generation traveled west to Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. The chart was about from 1700 to the 1850's. So I'm pretty sure that several cousins fought on opposites side in the civil war.

My Cooper family is well documented here in the state. My great grandmother was an Alice Beulah Cooper, b. 1855, who married H. DeVere Thompson. Her father was Isaac Cooper, a forty-niner, married to Caroline Armstrong, and was the son of Samuel and Eliza/Elizabeth Bartlett Cooper. Samuel was the son of Judge William Cooper and Elizabeth Fenimore, brother to the Author James Fenimore Cooper.  Judge William Cooper lineage on the Cooper side went  like this: He was the son of James Cooper and Hannah Hibbs, grandson of William and Mary (Groom) Cooper, great grandson of James Cooper, the emigrant, and his wife Hester.

The emigrant, James Cooper, was born in or about 1661 in Stratford upon Avon, England, to George and Elizabeth (Oldfield) Cooper... I can't really verify this connection, but from histories I read that he was the nephew to Anthony Ashley Cooper, the First Earl of Shaftsbury, who was the son of Sir John of Rockburne and Ann Ashley, Grandson of John and Martha/Margaret (Shutt) Cooper, Great grandson of Richard and June (Kingsmill) Cooper and the gr-gr-grandson of Esq. John and Alice Cooper.
