I'm looking for info on the William Claude Brown family.  He married Willie Nell Alexander about 1897 in Wayne County, Kentucky.  They were both born there until they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana about 1916 with their daughters.

I'm creating a specialized Genealogy book for a relative who is in law enforcement. I've found so many ancestors who were in law enforcement, I want to show as many as I can in the book. I would love to find a photo of Sheriff William Patrick "Billie" Davis, the One-Armed Sheriff of Whitley County. He was born in 1778 and died in Williamsburg KY in 1864. Surely at least one picture was taken?

My KY ancestors' surnames include: Horn, Hoover, Lancaster, McQuinn/McQueen,

Faulkner (many variations), Broyles, Garner.  Many lived in TN before coming to KY and lived near Estill Co, KY.  They later moved to MO abt <1870>.

Mary Frances,

It is an odd coincidence, but it appears that your father does NOT match or come close to matching the y-DNA for our Moccasin Creek, Scott County, VA Frazier family.  I find this odd since the list of counties you provided has several points of overlap with our family, particularly Umatilla, OR; Daviess County, MO and Floyd County, KY.

Moreover, if you can trace your family to East Kentucky, I am doubly surprised we are not related because the late Mae Frazier of Lexington, who was undoubtedly THE Frazier expert in East Kentucky assured me that all Fraziers in East Kentucky before 1850 were surely related and descended from one of three brothers who came from SW Virginia around 1800.

You also mentioned Wiley Cope Frazier (b abt 1829, KY) who was my g-grandfather's brother.  He migrated to Sonoma Co, CA about 1856, and on to Umatilla Co, OR about 1870.  One of his descendants, Dean Frazier (y-Search ID = FVDXQ) is among my cousins who were tested at FTDNA.  You can check his DNA against your Dad's.

I entered your y-Search ID (AK9PQ) and a number of matches appear, but none of them are my cousins who are descended from either George or Solomon Frazier of Russell (now Scott) Co. VA.  If you wish to communicate further, you may want to e-mail me directly at paul.gerhart@case.edu so we can avoid clogging this list too much.  I would be happy to provide any documentation I have on our Frazier family.

Kind regards,

Paul Frazier Gerhart

I have matched y-DNA with families in the counties I have listed and I am trying to find out if John Frazier's children also match, which include Solomon, Squire, Jonathan, George, Joseph, James and William and the descendants. I too, have relatives that went to Oregon and California from Missouri. I have an exact match with a relative in California whose family is from Daviess County, MO. My great grandparents are buried in Olney Cemetery, Umatilla County, Oregon along with other relatives that are said to be descendants of John Frazier (Wiley Cope Frazier family). I will be doing an FTDNA test and a Genographic test in Sept when I go to another 100th birthday in Missouri to get more dna. I have an AncestryDNA test I put onto Ysearch #AK9PQ if that helps. Thanks~

Hello Mary Frances,

Below is a comment I posted last November.  If this looks promising, please let me know.  I can provide more details on our 8 Frazier DNA matches.  All are listed on Family Tree DNA (ftdna.com).  Many of the locations you mention are on our list, but we also have several from Texas and California who came through Daviess County, MO..

"Thanks for asking John.  I have the same question for Frazier/Frazer/Fraysher/etc.  If anyone with this last name has tested or is interested in testing, please feel free to contact me -- Paul Frazier Gerhart at  paul.gerhart@case.edu

Our line came from Moccasin Creek, southwest VA about 1800 led by Solomon (b1773), George, Jonathan, Squire, and perhaps other Fraziers from Russell County (what is now Scott County), VA into what was then Floyd (now Letcher and Breathitt) County, KY."

Kind regards,

Paul Frazier Gerhart

FRAZIER and variant spellings. Tested Dad.  I have Y-DNA matched for Floyd, Clay, Laurel, Johnson Counties in KY and Daviess County, MO and other areas of MO and Umatilla County, OR and from VA. Would really like to see Y-DNA for Russell and Scott County, Virginia to prove or disprove a connection. Thanks ~

Hi Kathi-

If you know someone with an ancestry.com membership (or your library or local Family History Library has one you can use), there is a listing for Lona Stewart, born 1906,

Father:  William Barton Stewart
Mother:

Elizabeth 'Eliza' Gibson,

in a public family tree named "MATHIS DEMONBREUN Family Tree" (hopefully that's not you).  Sorry, my subscription ran out about a month ago.  Happy hunting!

Lucy
