Ann Marie - I've been checking through some Ancestry.com records I have and they seem to be much more cohesive than the Family Search ones. The source citation is the Chadsey family; from Suzanne Guerra, Guerra-Tharp family. I'm so thrilled to find someone else doing this family that I'm getting ahead of myself - my apologies. By the way, it was Henry I, not Henry II of England, and looking through Ancestry.com the connection is pretty clear.

Ann Marie - I'm so glad to hear from you. My records show that Dr John Greene and Joseph Green, brothers, were the sons of Richard Green & Mary Hooker, or another Richard Green, or a Peter Green. John & Joseph shared exactly the same documentary dates, and were each married to Joane Tatersalle,or Joanne (Tallershall - Tatarsole.) It makes me wonder if they were one and the same person. Joseph shows two other wives and families., but I'll have to ck to see if John does. These records are typical of a lot of the Family Search.org records, and this is where I've found a good part of my information. I sure hope that we can sort some of these things out - this is my grandmother Charlotte Udora Green's fathers line, so my mtDNA doesn't help at all - only the female line. We have to match up if we can just untangle a little. I think your information will probably be closer, because you've more than likely done hands on , more personal research. As far as I know Dr. John Green goes directly back to the Green's Norton records. I'm not familiar with the protocal on sharing information, so if you are, please lete know.

Kenna,
I am a descendant of Dr. John Greene "The Surgeon" and Joan Tattershall of Warwick, RI. I do not have the line put into my genealogy program, and just have lots of notes written down....but would love to compare notes if you like!

Caro; The largest part of this history was compiled long before I started genealogy - the village of Greene's Norton has a history library of the original holdings before and after the Greene's had possession. I'm LDS so many people in my family & others have researched & added to Family Search.org - I think that's a big part of the problem with the latter part of the family. Too many cooks, you know? Some are so anxious to tie into the original Greene's that some of the dates & other facts just don't seem to fit. Most genealogists would not let this happen, especially to document it, but many of the beginners don't really check out all the facts they should. Just about anyone can post a GEDcom, and whoever is researching might have many different sites to sift through. This line of Greene's supposedly ties in to Henry II of England through the wife of one of the early Greene's, and then back as far as 061, including a lot of Europe's royalty. I've run into some of biggest tangles ever; children born years after the parents deaths, the same children with the same facts listed with different sets of parents and then the polygamists after the LDS emigrated to Utah.
Much of this history is proven and documented properly, but a lot of it isn't. Most of the polygamists prefer to keep their histories private, so while the different wives and their facts ore listed, sometimes all of the children are listed with each wife?!?!
I'll work on this for awhile, then give up and work on a different family line. Someday
someone may sort it all out, but it will take more fortitude than I have. I take more pleasure in documenting even 1 person in my father's line or keeping track of our youngest generations.
But it's like a big puzzle - you can't just ignore it ....

You have your family traced all the way back to the 12th century?! That is insane!! How did you accomplish such a feat? I would love to be able to get some my family back that far. The earliest date I have is 1585. What is your secret?!

That is so interesting! What a story to put into a family history book!

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to match up with my Greene family or even my Martin family. I'm noticing now that I didn't actually say where they were from. Both my Greene and Martin families were in Wisconsin. The Greene family came in through Canada and the Martin family came in through the UP (and probably Canada before that). As far as I know - which isn't much - they were never in Tennessee. I know next to nothing about the Greene family but I do know that the Martin family was never down there.

How odd though that there is an unrelated Greene family married into an unrelated Martin family. So so odd.

Yes, surname Martin, sorry I didn't make that clear. The Martins lived in Hawkins County, Tennessee. When Anderson Martin, son of Aaron Martin married Nancy Caroline Neal, Nancy was of the Green family line. Anderson and Nancy migrated to Runnells, Polk, Iowa. After Anderson died, Nancy filed as an "Old Settler" but was denied because her Native American family had moved out of the Carolinas before the "Removal". They were called "Old Settlers", but Nancy did not qualify, as she could not prove her lineage to Gardner Greene, excepting oral stories. SHE knew her lineage, but because there were not sufficient records, she and her children were denied governmental monies due the Native Americans moved off their lands.

My Greene's begin with (Alexander) b: abt 1181, his son Walter DeBoketon b:abt 1206 of ,,Northampton, Eng., his son John DeGreene DeBoketon b:abt 1232 ,Thomas DeGreene (Boketon) b:abt 1260 and on down the line to James Greene b:21 Jun 1626 in Warwick, Kent, Eng., married Elizabeth Anthony of Portsmouth, Newport RI, then his son John Greene b:30 Sep 1685 in Warwick, Kent , RI. The line gets quite confusing back in the English years with several each John's, James's, Richard's etc. Does anyone else descend from this line? The earliest years are very well researched but the 1600's and 1700's are a little confusing to me. It's about the time they started immigrating to America - if you have information on this line I'd love to compare and share with you.

When you say Martin ancestor do you mean the last name Martin? There are already several connections between the Greene and Martin families just in that one little town in Wisconsin. I would be greatly interested in hearing more about your lines ..

To give you more info about my Greene line below:

Frank Anthony Greene married Linda Prestil and had four children with her, including my mother-in-law, Wendy Greene, who married Daniel Martin. Together they had two children, including my husband. So my daughter is Martin.

Not my direct line, but my Martin ancestor was married to Nancy Caroline Neal, who was descended from Gardner Greene, b: 1736 in Rocky Creek, Cherokee Nation, GA. His wife was Margaret Coil.
