Hi Pete, I've been away on holiday and am only just beginning to catch up again. I think it's very likely that the Thomas Couch who married Dorothy Slade is the brother of our John Couch who married Mary Passmore.  John was said to be 64 years old when he was buried in 1817 placing his year of birth at around 1753. There are at least three different John Couches born around this time and I've not been able to work out which one is correct. A John Couch was baptised on 15th March 1752 in Chittlehampton, the son of William and Melior Couch. There was also a John Couch baptised on 27th February 1749 in Ugborough to Thomas and Rose Anna Couch, and a John Couch baptised on 27th September 1749 in Newton Saint Cyres, the son of William and Elizabeth. The Newton St Cyres John Couch is probably the one shown on the IGI who married Elizabeth Ellis on 7th February 1780 in Newton Saint Cyres.

I don't have a record of a John and Margaret Couch. Are they from Langtree?

To Debbie Kennett, Re: Couch;s of St Giles in the Wood.If it is any help, a Thomas Couch married a Dorothy Slade in St Giles in the Wood. In 1786.  I think this is the son of John & Margaret Couch, who also had James 1750 & John 1754.  James is my 3rd Great Grandfather.  So I think the John you mention is the one above.  I will check out Mary Passmore & add to my tree if correct.  ....  regards.... Pete Couch

Hi, my name is Pete(r) Couch.  I live in North Lincolnshire, England.  I have been researching my family tree for three years.  We originate from Devon, my own line from Langtree & Buckland Brewer.  My Great-great Grandfather was a miller.  He was called Thomas Couch (1798)  born at Langtree.  It is his early history I am researching pre-1829.  If anyone has any information concerning his employment prior to this I would appreciate it.  Also, anything I can help anyone with, I would be only to pleased to do so. .... regards. .... Pete

I'm researching the Couches of St Giles in the Wood, Devon. We can trace the line back to John Couch who married Mary Passmore on 16th July 1780 in St Giles in the Wood. The group photo shows my husband's great uncle Herbert Victor Couch (1887-1916). He served in the Devonshire Regiment in World War I but sadly died of malaria while on a ship travelling to India.
