RayDean Hill - As I do not work for Millennia I am not familiar with the details. Whilst I have no doubt that the details in the book were published in good faith, it is my understanding that changes made necessary by the implementation of improvements and enhancements did lead to the removal of some functions previously available in V7.5.

I cannot say whether or not this applies to the change in key shortcuts to which you refer.

Ron, thank you for your input.  The book is the "Legacy 8.0 Family Tree" user manual for the software, published by Millennia.  I got it in July when I paid for version 8 at a conference.  So I would imagine those keyboard shortcuts listed on the back of the book should be available, especially since it's a feature that was in Legacy 7.5.  I'm still feeling puzzled...  :/

RayDean-Hill - The book yo which you refer is, I guess, Geoff's, published some time before the release of V8.0. To the best of my knowledge this feature has not yet been implemented.

Carolyn - You should not lose anything other than the Deluxe feature. Legacy 8 is installed in a separate directory path, so you'll still have full access to Legacy 7 after installing Legacy 8 (Standard or Deluxe). Once you have Legacy 8 up and running, you will have to manually customize it to match what you currently have in Legacy 7, interface color, menus, ... etc ...

I have Legacy 7 De Luxe. Will I lose anything if I only upgrade to Legacy 8 Standard.

I just upgraded to Legacy 8 and I love it so far!  I am running into a little snag, though -- the keyboard shortcuts listed on the back of the Legacy 8 book (like NS to add a new son, or EW to edit wife, etc.) do not seem to be working.  Do I need to enable those somehow?  It's late and I'm tired, so it's entirely possible I'm missing something obvious...  :)  Help, please?

Responding to my own question - I did a File Maintenance - Check/Repair, and the 'missing' entries have returned.

I maintain my genealogy database using Legacy on my desktop, but use TNG online.

On 12th October, I uploaded a new GEDCOM to TNG with 167896 individuals and 70351 families.

Since then, I have added around 100 individuals to the Legacy database, but noticed last night the file now has just 165803 individuals and 69780 families.

I have not deleted any files, though I have merged two.

Is there a way I can identify the additions since 12th October and then add them back in to the GEDCOM?

Hi Pamela, that is exactly what I wanted. I was a bit unsure whether to unlink the parents from him or unlink him from his parents. I did have a look at the help but still was unsure.

Thanks a lot

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn. In the Legacy help menu, it has instructions for unlinking a child from parents and siblings, but keeping his/her spouse and descendants.

Unlinking a Child from Parents

When you choose to unlink an individual from their parents, you are telling Legacy to break the tie that exists between that person and their parents and their siblings (if any).  Unlinking a person does not delete the individual from the family file.  It simply disconnects him or her from having a child relationship with the current parents, and a brother-sister relationship with any siblings.  The person would still remain linked to his or her spouse(s) and children.

Is this what you wanted?
