My great grandmother's name was Carrie Lee Davis birth 17 Feb 1896, death 31 Jan 1948. Her married name was Rowell. She married Robert Louis Rowell. She lived and died in MS. I do not know much else about her. I would love to know who her parents were. I have been told she was a Native Indian but that is all hear say. I am hoping to tie into someones family tree.

I have two Davis g-grandmothers: Hannah, who married John Arbogast -- they were the parents of my ggg-grandmother, Rachel Arbogast AND Mary Ann Davis, who was also my ggg-grandmother and married Levi White, son of David White.

Three DAVIS lines:

1. Nathan Davis born c1853 Pontotoc, Mississippi. 1860 census he is living with Thomas DANDRIDGE. Allegedly Nathan was left on the DANDRIDGE doorstep with a note, This is Nathan Davis. Nathan married Mary Jane EDGE probably Lee County, MS about 1875. He died before 1895 possibly in Prairie County, Arkansas.

2. Mary Jane DAVIS, born c1838 Osage County, Missouri. She was the daughter of unknown DAVIS and Margaret QUICK. Mary Jane married Albert G. MEREDITH in 1855 Osage County, Missouri. She died after 1880 unknown. Her siblings were Jesse Davis (b1838- died unknown), Sarah Eveline Lousia Davis, born 1832 MO; Artemesia Davis (1834-1873).

3. Henry Davis, born 1827 Virginia- died 1877-1880 McNairy County, Tennessee. Wife was Elizabeth, born c1832 Virginia, died after 1880 probably McNairy County, Tennessee. Henry Davis' mother was Winney Unknown last name, born about 1804 Virginia and died after 1850 McNairy County, Tennessee. Henry's father, Mr. Davis, died prior to the 1850 census. It appears the family moved from Virginia to Tennessee about 1840 as Rebecca DAVIS is born about 1840 in Tennessee. Mr. Davis and Winney appear to have 10 children living on the 1850 census.
