What Germanic surnames are you researching (Please list Surname - area and time frame)

Hi,
My German family surname is Bonstein The oldest Bonstein Ancestor of mine recorded in my file is Cuntz Bonnstein and his wife Gela. They were married before 1630 and lived in the town of Ropperhousen, in the Principality of Hesse-Kassel (a principality in northern Hesse) in what was know as the Holy Roman Empire.

Copied verbatim from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Roman_Empire

The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (German: Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nation listen ▶ (help·info), Latin Sacrum Romanum Imperium Nationis Germanicae, see names and designations of the empire) was a political conglomeration of lands in Central Europe in the Middle Ages and the early modern period. Emerging from the eastern part of the Frankish realm after its division in the Treaty of Verdun (843), it lasted almost a millennium until its dissolution in 1806. By the 18th century, it still consisted of the larger part of modern Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Belgium, and Luxembourg, as well as large parts of modern Poland and small parts of the Netherlands. Previously, it had included all of the Netherlands and Switzerland, and parts of modern France and Italy (see: Maps below). In the 18th century, when the Empire was already in decline, Voltaire ridiculed its nomenclature by saying that the Holy Roman Empire was "neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire".

It was never a nation state. Despite the German ethnicity of most of its rulers and subjects, from the very beginning many ethnicities constituted the Holy Roman Empire. Many of its most important noble families and appointed officials came from outside the German-speaking communities. At the height of the empire it contained most of the territory of today's Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Czech Republic and Slovenia, as well as eastern France, northern Italy and western Poland. Its languages thus comprised not only German and its many dialects and derivatives, but many Slavic languages and the languages which became modern French, Dutch and Italian. Furthermore, its division into territories ruled by numerous secular and ecclesiastical princes, prelates, counts, imperial knights, and free cities made it, in the early modern period at least, far less cohesive than the emerging modern states around it.
However, during most of its time it was more than a mere confederation. The concept of the Reich not only included the government of a specific territory, but had strong Christian religious connotations (hence the holy prefix). Until 1508, German Kings were not considered Emperors of the Reich until the Pope had formally crowned them as such.
The Reich can thus best be described as a cross between a state and a religious confederation

Lippelmann from Spenge/Bieldfield, specific town in Wallenbrucke. This is my husband's family. We still have relatives in the area that we reconnected with via my webpage: http://jehodges.tripod/lippelmann.html We have a long biography written in German of Caspar Lippelmann (1802-1889) that we need to have translated. My husband's high school German gets the gist of it, but some of it is too complicated.

Teetzel - English spelling John Solomon , unproved date of birth 27 Feb 1762, Saxe Cobourg Gotha, Upper Saxony. Alleged came to New Jersey by 1786, moved to Ontario Canada by 1810. Know for his tombstone carving. John married in 1786 in New Jersey Julia Ann Von Till/Tyle/Sill/Syle, also alleged to be German.
I am searching for Robert Paul Wilhelm Ludwig in the Kreuzberg area of Berlin in the 1870's and 1880's. Any ideas for help would be greatly appreciated. He married, had 9 children, wife died, and remarried all in Berlin before coming to the United States. I have been trying to find info on this family for 35 years.

YANT – Susanna YANT was born 1799 in Washington, Pennsylvania but I believe the family originally came from one of the Germanic states.

MINNIS – Hugh MINNIS was born 13 Nov 1786 in Pennsylvania, but I don’t know the name of the immigrating ancestor. I do however believe that this family also comes from one of the Germanic states.

CLARE – Charles CLARE born about 1825 in Bavaria immigrated to the USA sometime before the birth of his first son, also named Charles, in 1856. The mother of the younger Charles named Mary, was from Ireland.

I hope I've put this in a format that's relatively easy to follow.

Thanks for taking the time to read this list.

Blessings,
Joann
I am researching the following surnames: Albert, Ittinger (Edinger), Reber, Schilling and others from a small extinct village in Baden, near the town of Leibenstadt. The village was called Tolnayshof (Tolnaishof) (Tollnaishof) and during the 1850's the inhabitants were strongly encouraged to emigrate.

Many of the families ended up in Albany County or the city of Albany in New York State. Some of the other families that left were: Fehm, Hauser, Herbinger, Hofmann, Knittel, Maerz, Maier, Saenger, Sallig, Schwind and Wolpert.

I have a book which lists emigrants from this village and am willing to do lookups.
My German roots start with the Arenburgs of Nova Scotia, Canada. My Great Grandmother on my father's - father's - mother's side is an Arenburg. (hope thats not confusing)

I have no information of Johann's parents and there after.
His wife was Maria Julieanna Christ b. 1721 Brensbach, Germany d. 1793 Lunenburg, NS, Canada.
----------------------Maria is the last known German birth for my line with the Christ family.
----My Christ family line is traced to Peter Christ b.1590 Florsheim, Germany.

Surnames in my Arenburg and Christ family lines: Menn. Melchior, Ohl, Munk, Duchmann, Harnish, Mertz, Schmidt, Hoffman, Harnish.

This is just 2 of 4 lines I have through German decent.

I trace that line to Nicklaus Nagle 1691 Germany.

I would love to find stories about these familes and further the research.

I am Researching Shick/Sheik/Sheek/Sheak From Hesse, Germany

I am searching for information of William "Henry" Kurth b. approx March 1837 in Kurhessen, 1870 says Prussia, 1880- Hesse Castle, 1900 says Germany, Henry emmigrated around 1854 to the U.S. on unknown ship, seems he most likey arrived in Philadelphia as he was in PA for a while. He married Anna Barbara (Wageman) Lutz, who was born 1842 in Bayern, around 1860, by 1864 they were in IL, by 1865 in Iowa County, Iowa till his death in 1910. Henry may have emmigrated with a brother/cousin Adam Kurth who also emmigrated around 1854 and who settled in Montgomery Co. PA.
I am searching for my husband's Kling family line. I cannot get beyond his great great grandfather, Jacob Kling, born around 1826 in Darmstadt, married to an Anna or Annie (last name not known) thought to have been born around 1825 in Kur Hessen. I have found a Naturalization record for Jacob, date 28 Oct 1864 and shows his Former Nationality: Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt, however there is no port or date of arrival on the form. I have not found a naturalization record for Anna, but on the 1900 census, it indicated she immigrated in 1861. I cannot find a ship record for either of them, but know that they came to New York and that is where they stayed all their lives.

A strange fact that I have come across is that they had 5 sons, Frank (b.1860), John (b.1861), Conrad (b. 1862), Jacob (b. 1863), and Albert (b.1873), and several daughters (per a family bible-no names listed), however in the 1870 and 1880 US censuses Frank and John are not listed as living with Jacob and Annie (although Conrad, Jacob, and Albert are-no daughters are ever listed on any of the censuses that I came across). There is an 1870 US census that lists a Frank and John (same ages) living with a Conrad Kling in New York. As a matter of fact, this Conrad lived in Wayland, NY in 1870, exactly where my father-in-law was born and raised (Jacob and Annie stayed in the Manhattan area). It may be that this Conrad was a brother of Jacob, and for some reason Jacob's 2 oldest boys went to stay with their uncle Conrad.

If anyone has any ideas on how to locate this line of the Klings in Germany, please let me know. Also, if you have any knowledge of this Frank or John Kling (and yes, I have found a Frank and a John, same ages, in ancestry.com, listed Conrad as their father) and why they would be in the family bible as children of Jacob and Annie, yet never found in their household, please share. Thank you.
I am looking for the names Rombach, Luly/Luley/Lulay, and Cauff. All lived in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. The Rombach and Luly familes came to the U.S. from Baden, Germany in the 1830's. Charles Rombach (born 1811) married Maria Anna Luly (born 1822) around 1840. My brick wall has come trying to find the parents of Charles. I am also looking for info on the Cauff family, Lena Cauff and Peter Cauff (brother and sister), probably from the Pittsburgh area. Both born in the late 1890's/early 1900's.
