Hi Debby, I descend from the Merritt family which was a prominent family in Westchester County, NY too. :)  They were of course mostly Loyalists and moved first to the Maritimes and eventually settling in Ontario (where I am from.) :)

I do appreciate you offer to help. The Southard/Southward/Southworth family I am seeking moved from NY state to MI between 1830 and 1840. Also sons-in-law Wm Wilcox and George Gilbert moved at the same time. Moving in to Washtenaw co (probably) then on up to Jackson co and over to Eaton co. Thomas married in Eaton co and then moved to Isabella co. Peter also moved from Eaton to Isabella co. John, the oldest known stayed in Eaton co. John was b 1807 died 12 May 1886 in said do. Thomas was born 1824 (says in Isabella county history that he was born Orleans county, NY0 died in Isabella co 1895. Was married twice. Peter was born 1833 in New York was in Isabella co in 1900 and I have found no record of him after that. There were also three girls in this family all of who moved to MI. The mother's mname was Susanne or Susan..maiden name unknown. b abt 1790. The possibel father was Carman Sounthard but I need some verifcation of that and so far have not located any. He is listed in 1840 in Jackson co. There is a John living next to him. and they are about five mile from Wm Wilcox and George Gilbert the son's in laws. Sooo, that is a start. Any ideas?
