I have just joined this group. My Alsop/Alsup ancestors came from England to Virginia in the 1660's as indentured servants. They were George Alsop and his wife Ann Ossippe.Their ggreat grandson Lt.Benjamin Alsop fought in the Rev.War.Perhaps I can help Bob Mooney and his search.Have you looked on Ancestry.com and other sites for info?

I am looking for someone who can look for info on a Martin Mooney who joined the Rev. War in Albemarle County about 1775. He was in Capt. William Fontaines Regiment and Col Charles Lewis 4th Va Reg.

NANTZ/NANCE, WILLINGHAM/WINNINGHAM.  Lunenburg County, VA.  Narcissa D. Claybrook (nee Nantz/Nance) listed in Tavener Nance will.  Does not say if she is a daughter of his or not.  Narcissa married WPD Claybrook in 1827 in Kentucky. She was my 3rd gt. grandmother, and I would like to be able to say that she was the daughter of Tavener and Mary Willingham Nance, but it's hard to find written proof.  Mary Willingham was the daughter of Gerald and Mary Johnson Willingham.  Have been working on this for so long.  Now I need to find some help with it.  Thanks.

I am looking for any information on the Scarberry family who were originially from Virginia but migrated to Kentucky and West Virginia.  Also looking for any information on the Altice Family.

Update on my research of my Hale line.

A before unknown cousin was located who is the great granddaughter of Henry Hale a brother to John Hale, my great grandfather. She stated that her mother (Mary Quinn) always told her and her brother they were not really Hale. They were AKERS. Her mother told them an Aker was adopted either by Henry Hale or his father John Hale, my great great grandfather.

Would any one know of any Acker/Aker/Akers that was taken in by a Hale family? Thanks for any help.

Ray, For fairly recent death records in VA try:

http://www.vdh.state.va.us/vital_records/

For earlier records, try the State Library or local court houses/historical societies.

I currently live in Richmond, VA and upon occasion get to the State Library and to various sites around the state. Most all of my various ancestors originally came from or through VA.
