Lorraine, welcome to the forums how long have you been in the U.S for? I too came from England. Born in Lambeth London and raised in Huntingdon Cambs. Met my Hubby at our LDS Branch when he was stationed in the AirForce (Alconbury). We now live in West Jordan Utah.
My Dad's side of the family came from Ireland about 3-4 generations back. But so far all the rest were Cockney's.

Hello. I am fairly new to the site. I first developed an interest in my family history approximately 25 years ago when my aunt gave me a 2 page handwritten fairly detailed history of the Armstrong family - source unknown but it included detailed BMD information dating back to the early 1800's! Then life got in the way of my research, until about 6 years ago when I found more time, and now that I am retired it is full steam ahead! I have German ancestors who settled in the Waterloo area, Scottish and English ancestors who made Wentworth and Glengarry Counties home, and Irish who made it to Bruce and Perth Counties, all in Ontario, Canada. I have made considerable inroads in Canadian research, though there is always more info to be discovered. Nonetheless, I am about ready to jump the Atlantic. I am hoping to make connections here with others in the same area of research, and thus have joined several groups on this site. I look forward to communicating with and learning from others here! Hi my name is Roger Robineau.
I am new to Genealogy. I have been saying that for over a year because i have not found the time to really get into the research. I think i will be ramping up until the day i retire, then i can really get into it.
I am French Canadian and most of my family is in Ontario but originated in Quebec. We have a small group in Michigan.
I am researchng Robineau's, Sauve's, and Cartie's. All three originate from France.
My wife's side of the family, Powell's and White's come from England.

My mother recently passed (92yrs). Grandpa Ignatz Poulaski immigrated from Lithuania with his cousin Alexander Gureckis in June 1913 on the SS Vaderland. I found the Ellis Island manifest. Their passage was paid by Joseph Gureckis (father to Alex, uncle to Ignatz) and they went to E Millinockett ME. My grandpa married grandma Eugania (Jugana, Ngana, Ugana) Kaoliti (Kosliti) on Oct 24, 1915 in E MIllinockett. The service was presided over by Rev Thomas O Dowd (or Thos. J. O'Dowd)
I have a letter from Barbara Tukis, her husband is Joe Tukis. Barbara explains she and Alex Gureckis are sister and brother. Alex is married to Anna. This small letter tied my grandpa Ignatz Poulaski to Barbara Tukis and Alex Gureckis as cousins. Also found another letter from "auntie" Annie Sawaski addressed to Ignatz Poulaski. Not sure where Annie fits into the picture, she would have been a sister to Joseph Gureckis, or related to Ignatz's brother, assuming he had a brother.
Anyway, this has a been a lot of fun to date. With the rich records available in Maine and Mass I'm pretty sure I can come up with the pedidgre. I just need to figure out how to get birth records and marriage records from the 1920s to present without traveling. Traveling would be a last resort since I live in Ohio. Anyway, I'm glad I am here starting out, and looking forward to a lot of good enlightening discussions.

I am Susan Mackenzie, born in Montreal, Québec, now living in Ottawa, Ontario. I have been doing genealogical research for just under a year and am focusing on my mother's family.
Surnames that I have documented information for (so far) are Gaunt, Haselden, and Hall in Canada and England; Cowan and Rutherford in Canada and (indirectly) Ireland; and Kay in England. English names I have anecdotal reports for are: Duckworth, Mackenzie (yes, on my maternal side too), Austin, Hancock, Tickle, and Lister. There is also a Craig who may be Irish or of Irish ancestry.
I need help in finding information about the parents and siblings of John Cowan (my great great grandfather). He is said to have been born in 1827 in Ontario or, possibly, Ireland. His parents were born in Ireland according to Canadian census records for John. In 1855 John was living in East Hawkesbury, Ontario when he married Annie Rutherford (daughter of William Rutherford and Catherine Craig) in Oxford Township, Grenville County, Ontario. Their only child (Lizzie Catherine Craig Cowan) was born in East Hawkesbury in 1857 and baptized in Hawkesbury. Lizzie married Richard Lister Gaunt in 1881 and they lived in Montreal for the rest of their lives. Both John and Annie were Wesleyan Methodists. I cannot find the family on the 1861 census but from 1871 to 1901 they were in Montreal where John ended up owning and managing the John Cowan Chemical Company. John died in 1904 and is buried in Mount Royal Cemetery.
I have found a family in the 1851 census who were living in Vaughn township, York county, Ontario. There is a son, John, of the right estimated age and they are Wesleyan Methodists ... but that's all I have about them ...
I shall be grateful if anyone can help me find my John Cowan's family of origin!

Hi Susan, you might want to try goggling the names also try familysearch.org. And it looks like there maybe a tree on Ancestry, so you might want to take a look.

Thanks for your suggestions. I googled John Cowan some time ago and that's how I found information about his wife and about their wedding. Have also checked Family Search and I suspect the tree on Ancestry is mine (if it's a private one)!

Hi, I'm new here. I'm trying to find out info about my g-grandmother on my mom's side, Martha Minerva Kennett (married Cantelas) who was important to me as a child. I recently got some photos from my family in support of finding out more and a few are in . I'm afraid census records might not help me, I have that info. I'm hoping I can connect with cousins who might have more info about my family. I have some stories about some members from my family that I can share. If anyone is researching the Kennetts from OH, PA, Franklin Co. VA, and possibly OK, I'd be happy to share along with other photos of Kennetts and Fergusons. I'd be especially happy to meet someone related to Rolland or Florence Kennett.
On my dad's side, I go back to the Averys of Groton CT, Thomas Fox, and am still researching the Baker and Hill sides. My ancestor is Annis Avery Hill of Wauwautosa, WI. Thanks for listening and for having such a great forum! Marji

I live in Rockhampton, on the north east coast of Australia. I caught the genealogy bug in 1983 when I was 23 years old and my father announced, for the first time to use kids, that he was adopted! I think it is a great hobby, as it has so many aspects, and has given me a purpose and focus when I travel. I am a Technology teacher & trainer by profession, and also deliver Genealogy sessions to our local family history group CQFHA, local history groups, etc. I look after the web pages for this group, and also for Bundaberg BGA, as well as have my own website Chris' Website.

I'm from British Columbia, Canada. I have been researching my tree for about 30 years. I have roots in Ohio, Utah, NY, LA and overseas in Denmark, Sweden & Germany.
I just started up a blog about my Family Photo Reunion hobby. I reunite identified family photos that I find with genealogists and family historians. You might want to check it out. I might even have one of your relatives posted there.
Right now I'm working on my Civil war ancestors (Ohio & Louisiana).

Hi, My name is Theresa. I'm brand new to genealogy. I've been studying my mother's great grandparent and their French/Canadian roots. Word spread about me doing this and my mother's cousin gave me information about a family tree that was started in the 1960's. That person was able to find out were the "French" from French Canadian came from.
I found a web site and found a post from Earline Hines Bradt that lead me here... In the posting she made, she stated her 3rd great grandfather was Pierre Tremblay Romain who was son of Andre Saveur Tremblay. I crossed referenced my information for the surname Tremblay and found we were from the same linage of Tramblays. However, her great great grandfather was one of my great great grandfather's brothers. Her line comes from the brother, Philias, was born Jan. 18, 1837.
My 3rd great-grandfather also was as Pierre Tremblay.. They also had a son Pierre Tremblay born November 15, 1832, St. Johns, Quebec, Canada. He married Emilie Fortin in 1853. They immigrated to the Newton,Harvey,Kansas. Because of the death of 5 of their children Pierre & Emilie headed north east for Chicago, IL. Accompanying them was thier 8 living children, John, Kate, Joseph, Romeo E., JULIA, Armilda Emelie, Rosalie and Aggie. After spending time in Chicago the family then continued to Sault Sainte Marie, Chippewa County, Bruce Township, Michigan... Neebish Island, UP Michigan.
Daughter, Julia is my great grandmother, born April 20, 1867. Julia married John Baptiste Bergeron and had 8 or more children. My grandmother is Julia's daughter Carrie Bergeron born 1905. Carrie's daughter Rosemary, born 1937 is my mother... Of Chicago, ILI would like to get in touch with others they may also have the same lineage of Pierre Tremblay.... Just to give more background information..... Andre Saveur Tremblay's father is Basile Tremblay, born 1725 who married... Francoise Terrien, Basile Father was, Nicolas Tremblay born 1699, Nicolas Tremblay's father is Pierre Tremblay b. 1660. His father is Pierre Tramblay born 1626 in Perche, France. He married Ozanne Achon. Marriage record of Pierre Tremblay and Ozanne Achon, Oct. 2, 1657
It's a lot of information but I am really interested in meeting others that may also come from the lineage of Pierre Tremblay and Ozanne Achon.

Theresa, for someone who has just started you have a lot of info, have you looked on Ancestry for Family Trees, if someone has a FT of your family you could see if they have more info and get to talking to them. Also on familysearch.org might have a family tree or 2 so check on there. or Goggle a name and see what comes up.
