I'm Sam Beaumont, a 5th generation Texan. My great-great grandfather was a Dane who went to sea as a cabin boy in 1828. Is anyone aware of a Danish Seafarer's Registry, or any other source, where we may be able to find information such as his place of birth, etc?

I have been tracing my family for some time and done quite well with those in the UK. I knew my Great grandad was Dutch and his surname was Indrisie (which I've been told on several occasions isnt a Dutch name). I have finally managed to trace his marriage to Hendrika de Boom in Amsterdam in 1888 and from this record (found on genlias website) I now know that my great great grandparents were called Pauline Nieberg, Johannes Indrisie, Jacobus de Boom and Jacoba Berghuis. I would love to find out more about them but am not too sure what my next steps would be. I also know that they came from Amsterdam and Haarlem.

Hello, I just joined this website. I am working on my family ancestry. I started getting into this when 7 years ago I found out that my dad who I grew up knowing as my dad was not my biological father. So I started searching for my biological father online and I have had two families that I have done two DNA tests with families who could have been my birth father and so far I have struck out two times with negative results.
So I started getting into my family history along the way. A lot of my family on my mother's side comes from Italy. I have made connections with some cousins which has been great. Right now I am focusing on my mother's father side of the family tree. Many of them come from a little town in Sicily called Bolognetta. The primary last names that I am looking for in that community are Guagenti, Montalbano, Bivona. There are a couple of other last names that I believe are also connected and they are Lombino and Sclafani.
My goal in doing this family research is I want to find cousins that are alive whether they are here in the USA or in Italy. Within the next two years I hope to have filled in some gaps that I have in terms of people and have made some connections with some cousins. And within 5 years I hope to go back to Italy and not only do the tourist stuff but visit some cousins and places where family came from.

Jim I made great head way when I went on facebook to see if there was any family members put in the name you want to find and see what you can find and then message them. also google the surmane and see what comes up that way, and what about familysearch.org.

Kathleen, I too have made some great headway as well on Facebook. In fact, in doing the search for my birth father, a man who was a potential birth father to me was on there, but I never would have known he was there because his profile did not show very much info. Also, as I have been working on the family ancestry stuff, I have made contact with some living cousins via Facebook. The downside to Facebook is I have probably sent easily 6 to 8 messages to various people, most who I am very very certain that we are cousins and have not got a reply. Then I see that they are doing other things on Facebook so I wonder why they are not acknowledging my message. My thinking assumes the worst that they do not want anything to do with me for some reason in the past that I have no clue about.
I do also use familysearch.org, ancestry.com, and google.com as well as a few other websites that have been very helpful.

I'm addicted to FarmVille on Facebook and, as a result, receive "friend" requests from strangers all the time. If I don't recognize the surname, I don't respond. I may have deleted a request from a "3rd-cousin-5-times-removed" by not responding but I'm not interested in "friend"-ing everybody on the planet.
There are other ways/sites through which potential long-last relatives can connect w/ me -- the best being thru Ancestry.com or one of the FAMILY NAMEs boards thru RootsWeb. If your potential relatives aren't into genealogy, try contacting them thru ZabaSearch.com (if you know their state of residence).

Jim, I understand about not getting a reply on facebook, I have had the same result and wondered why, But then I try someone else with the same surname. you might want to try new.familysearch.org.
Not sure where you live, but if you have an LDS Family History Center around you, they have free access to most Family History
subscription websites.Kathleen

Hello
I am 66 years old and have studied genealogy since 1975. I have about 2000 ancestor´s on my pedigree alsom many pedigree collapses from the 6th generation. Most of my ancestor´s are from norhern Sweden. Some relatives emigrated to the Unites States beetween 1892 and 1910
