I've just realised you are seeking info about your family from County Offaly. I live in Tullamore, County Offaly, so if I can help in any way please let me know. My e-mail is lorry@eircom.net

Although civil registration did not take place in Ireland until 1864 the parish records (well most of them) are available in the National Library of Ireland. With the advent of TV programmes such as "Who Do You Think You Are" it has become much easier to access information here in Ireland. It has taken me some time to get my family history together but its beginning to come together.

Greetings to Irish researchers from Granite Falls, Washington, USA! My Irish surnames are SHANE/SHEEHAN from County Limerick and WALKER from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland. A dose of Irish good luck to you all! Sue Edminster

So Alan you are saying that those of whose ancestors came to the US before 1864 are not going to be able to find any information on them or their family in Ireland?

Irish Research!!!!!!
Just a note to Inform people that here in Ireland our Records, Indexed and Microfilmed, Only go back to 1864. Everything before that was Destroyed by fire in 1916. Some Older records are available in the Parish of the counties, but are a lot harder to get at, so anyone looking for anything before 1864, are throwing a pebble into a very big pond.
Sad news but the Truth.
Regards Alan Long.

I Know very little about my Irish Ancestors. My Grandfather was Edward McMorrow and my Grandmother was Winefride McGloin and they were married before 1912 County Sligo. It has been sugested that McMorrows came originally from Northern Ireland but I have no proof. Would love to hear from anyone with info on these two surnames.

Hi, family name is Higgins. Lots of Irish families in my direct lines: Allen (County Carlow), Breen (County Wicklow), Cheshire (TBD), Clarke (TBD), Doyle (Bagenalstown, County Carlow), Heffernan (TBD), Higgins (TBD), Lynch (TBD).
Would apprciate any help on Cheshire/Chesher/Chessher/Chescher/Cheshier ..., in particular. Not a very common Irish name, as far as I've been able to determine.

It seems that many Irish settlers came to Monmouth and Newport in particular. Both sides of my wife's family settled there. Any links to the Furlongs, Powers or Traynors?

I am looking for any connection with my Lightbody family from Tullyrone, Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
Isaac Lightbody married Ann Gillespie.
Children were William, Samuel, Margaret, Thomas Henry, and more.
Some went to Australia which is my G Grandfather William and brother Samuel also came to Australia. Some went to USA.
