Everyone needs a laugh once in a while. So here are my list of excuses as why I can't find my ancestors.

1. My ancestors were the original Cabbage Patch Kids.

2. They came from outer space.

3. They took the slow boat and haven't gotten here yet.

4. The captain of the ship was a man and wouldn't ask for directions.

5. I haven't found the rock they crawled out from under.

6. They were in a witness protection program.

7. All my ancestors had daughters and all my lines "daughtered out"

Feel free to add to these.

can not find a death record from someone born in 1890 because he never died :)
This one is sad (from the genealogical perspective), but true. I couldn't find German relatives because it was the custom to change surnames when you: 1) moved from town to town, 2) married a woman whose father had no sons to inherit the name, or 3) bought land from someone who had no sons to inherit the land.
That must have been very annoying
It is! and omg, try reading the german writing!
Nobody else has ever had or researched any of my ancestors.
Hi Julia, that sounds more like a challenge to me, same happened to me I started and now there are about 11 people researching my lastname. What name are you looking for ?
1. I can not find them because they are dead.
2. There is not sign post in the graveyard saying here I am.
3. I have no ghost called GGG Maud following me saying I can help you.
4. Your Grandmother did not tell you her mother had her to some other stranger.
5. You find out from a distant relative that your Ancestor was scattered somewhere so you have no burial record. And all the record says is that they where cremated.
6. They forgot one of their children in their will so you dont know if they are actually yours.
hahahahahahahaha!
Well, It's as everyone always said. I wasn't born..............I was hatched.

Here's a tricky one. My last name on my birth certificate was misspelled. On purpose, I believe, because my Father was still married to his last wife. It's funny what you find when you go looking. I also found 2 other, previous wives of my Father's that my Mother and the rest of the family never knew about.................and tracked them down and talked to them on the phone all these years later.
I'm still trying to track down three of my father's six wives. Good luck!
Only two of us knows that my dad had a half sister. No one seems to care anyways.
I'm sorry :( It's really difficult when family not only uncooperative, but apathetic.
