A 1926 Stockdale Telephone Directory in my collection has now been
scanned and you may view/download the images at the following URL:

This old phone directory covered the exchanges for Lucasville, Minford,
Stockdale, South Webster, and Glade. Many interesting old ads as well.

The Portsmouth Daily Times, May 5, 1934
Daniel Webster Jones, 78, died at 7:55 p.m. Friday at his home in McDermott
after an illness of complications.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Rushtown Baptist church
and interment will be in Rushtown Cemetery under the direction of Ray E.
Rhoads. The body will be at the home of a son, Alvin of Duck Run.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Jones, and these children: John and
Alvin of Duck Run, Charles, Harrison, and Mrs. Alfred Lloyd of McDermott. He
also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Clinton Shively of Portsmouth and Mrs. Janie
Farmer of McDermott.

The Portsmouth Daily Times, Nov. 25, 1938
Mrs. Fannie Jones, 73, died at 12:30 p.m Thurday at the home of a daughter,
Mrs. Alfred Lloyd of McDermott. Mrs. Jones had been in ill health for the
last three months and death was attributed to complications.

Mrs. Jones was born December 25, 1865, in Lawrence County, a daughter of
William H. and Angeline McDaniel Massie. She came to Rush Township with her
parents 60 years ago and became a member of the Rushtown Baptist Church. She
was married to Daniel W. Jones of McDermott on Aug. 5, 1883. Her husband died
three years ago.

Surviving her are her daughter and four sons, John A. Jones of Alliance,
Charles and Harrison Jones of McDermott and Alva Jones of Duck Run. Four
Children proceeded her in death, her oldest daughter, Mrs. Nida Porter, died
20 years ago on Thanksgiving Day. She also leaves two brothers, Elihu E.
Massie of Portsmouth and Birch Massie of Lucasville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rushtown Baptist Church,
with Rev. H.O. Van Gilder of Temple Baptist Church, Portsmouth, in charge.
Burial will be in Rushtown Cemetery. The body will remain at the Rockwell
Funeral Home until Saturday afternoon, when it will be taken to the Lloyd
residence at McDermott.

Looking for relatives of the Hiles and burke Family. Have traced back to my grandparents. But cannot fing anyone before them. My mother will not give any information to me . My Grandfather was Loyd D. Hiles and My grandmother I beleive was Dora Burke. Also looking for Native American Connection.

Hi Linda, Do you have any dates to go with Lloyd and Dora? I did find Loyd's Death certificate on the LDS pilot site, but Dora was listed as Dora Hiles. If you have an idea of a birth date for her and maybe an idea what state she was born in I can check some census and see if we can find her family.

Hey Lori, My Grandfather was born Loyd D. Hiles 1894. Grandmother Dora Burke around 1898 . Heard they were from the Mc Dermont Ohio. My father died when I was 7 years old in Portsmouth His Name was William Hiles He died in 1965.
I heard my Grandfather had an indian mother came from Canada. . Thanks so much!!!

Linda, I will hunt around and see what I can find. I have a few things going on here at the home front so it may take a few days. But I will let you know what I find.

Linda, I looked in 1900 Census and found one Dora Burke in Ohio born in Nov 1898.

In the 1900 census they were living in Greenfield Village, Highland Co. Her father was John W. Burke born Dec. 1839 in VA. age 60. Mother Sealy A. Burke born Feb 1870 in OH age 29. This was the second marriage for both of them. Dora M. Burke born Nov. 1898 in OH age 1.

I found this census on the LDS Pilot site, there is an image of the census also. I will look and see what I can find for the Hiles.

Also in the 1900 Census:
There are 2 Loyd Hiles listed, both on Scioto Co. Here is some info.

Loyd Hiles born Mar 1896 OH. 1900 living in Morgan Township, Scioto Co. Parents are Daniel and Lydia A. Hiles. There are 7 children list only one younger than Loyd. Everyone was listed as born in OH.
And:
Loyd Hiles born Apr 1893 in OH. 1900 living in Union Township, Scioto Co. Parents are Perry and Annie Hiles. There are 3 children listed, one younger then Loyd. Everyone is listed as born in OH.
