I've been a scrapper since I was little (started out with construction paper, scotch tape, and markers...eek!) and I've been interested in genealogy since I was about 12, but I actually never thought to put the two together! I've also never done digital scrapping and have recently decided I'd like to try it! So I guess I'm looking for a bit of everything:)
Many people don't think to put the two together. I;m on a mission to change that. Welcome to the group.
I would like to start digital scrapping, but I have no clue where to begin, especially since I've never done ANY type of scrapping. I am considering starting with Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I'm a little worried about the amount of time it might take me to get up and running - I am a quick learner, but I've seen comments about the learning curve run the gamut from easy to impossible. I'm afraid if I go with one of the lighter software packages, I'll end up running out of options (although at $30 maybe it's worth it to try one), so that's why Elements seems to be the way to go. I'm also not sure what type of printer I'd need to get - the suggestions about printers seem to be all over the map as well. So, as you probably see from this message, I confuse myself regularly with TMI, which prevents me from starting anything at all. I guess my goals are 1) get software 2) learn software 3) get printer 4) GO!
Hi Lisa and welcome to the group. Photoshop Elements is a good program for digital scrapping. It has everything you need and any addons that can be used by regular Photoshop can be used by elements. I can't say about the learning curve on it because I use PSP, but I have talked with many people who use it. If you are a good learner, you shouldn't have that much trouble with it. There are tutorials all over the internet. Find some that tell you about the tools, because that's the place to start. Once you have the basics, the rest will be easy to learn.
I joined the group because I want to try putting scrapbooking and genealogy together for the first time. I have been researching genealogy. probably 15 years off and on and scrapbooking about 4 years. I use a scrapbook digital program called Storybook Creator by Creative Memories for scrapbooking and think it will work just as well for genealogy scrapbooking.

I have wondered what kind of format to go with in a scrapbook..timeline? family group sheets and just ad pictures and decorations? What styles do people use? I used to use Family tree maker for genealogy, but haven't kept up with the upgrades so will need to start over with a program and transfer my data to it, then I asume I would print from genealogy program and make a traditional scrapbook or load the images from genealogy program into digital scrapbook program and print from there.

Are you going to have workshops or classes?
I am interested is what others are doing with love of combining family history and scrapbooking. I am a beginner in scrapbooking and trying to organize paper, stickers etc. (any suggestions?) but been working on my and my husband's family tree for the last 15 years. I thought it would be fun to combine the two loves.
I used to do regular scrapbooking, and I found a great way to do digital scrapbooking. I'm brand new to Genealogy but I've really LOVED everything I've learned so far. I love looking at others layouts and I want to share what I've done and learned. I really enjoy seeing the diferent ways you can visually "share" all of your genealogy research with those who maybe don't have a love for ancestors yet. (Yet, that's we we do Genealogy Scrapbooking right?) I would love to advertise when I'm teaching online workshops too, if you wanted to add that somewhere in the group. Thank you for creating this wonderful group for us to share!
I am very much like Lisa; TMI and so nothing gets started! What do I want? A combination book of info and visuals in the size of 8 1/2" x 11" where I can slip the pages into sheet protectors. What do I NOT want? I don't want to work with 12" x 12" pages and I don't want the attention to be on a lot of "cut out paper" for decorations. I basically want a book of information that is enhanced by visuals.
WHEN I DONT HAVE A PICTURE OF AN ANCESTOR AND NOT A GREAT DEAL OF PERSONAL INFO ON THEN BUT KNOW THE TOWN OR COUNTY THEY LIVED, I LOOK UP IMAGE RESULTS. FOR INSTANCE AN ANCESTOR LIVED IN BROCKLYNN, N.Y. AS A CHILD IN THE 1880S SO I GOT IMAGE RESULTS FOR THE BROCKLYN BRIDGE IN THE 1880S. THAT WENT INTO THE SRACPBOK. ALSO USED LYRICES THAT FIT WITH THE CONCEPT...NOT THE FULL SONG JUST A FEW LINES OR SOMETIMES A FEW WORDS
