Do add your surnames of interest to the Oxfordshire Surname Interest List, OXSIL, www.oxsil.org.uk - and look for matches to your interests, too!

Hi. I am a new member researching ancestors from Oxfordshire. Specifically, interested in tracking the names BALDWIN and GYNGER from Hook Norton to Pennsylvania in the USA. I believe that my specific line was Thomas BALDWIN, son of William BALDWIN. Thomas appears to have emigrated from England about 1683 to Pennsylvania.

Hi, My first post to this discussion group - so hello.

I'm looking for help and advice on how I can go about tracking down information on my gg-grandparents who both came to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1848 from South Weston Oxon.

The details from the passenger list for each:

William Hawkins Gardener / Thatcher 34 yo, departed Plymouth 28April1848 on the Cornwall.

Elizabeth Hawkins (ms) Housemaid 20 yo, departed Plymouth 26June1848 on the Blondie.

Disposal for both was to James Eles (I think Ellis) a friend.  I'm also making the assumption they knew each other before their journey.

I have their wedding in Melbourne in 1850, information regarding their children and the death of William in 1888.  The death schedule indicates William's Father as John Hawkins, mother Ann Hawkins (ms: not known).

Thanks in anticipation.   Bob

WoW!!, thanks Gordon & Wendy, you just made my day, it is a great morning to wake up and get another generation back or more. I had searched the BDM records before and pieced together what I could Robert and Marta's oldest daughter Mary Ann married Vincent Parsons, they also came to Iowa , USA. Their 3rd daughter Anna married John Smith from Berkshire?, Another son of Robert & Martha also came over, George. Robert came to US before 1880 after the Death of Martha and other children. You both have made my day.

Dear Dawn

Martha BUCKINGHAM was my 4th cousin, 4x removed and I can give you some of her ancestry back to John Buckingham and Elizabeth BARRETT who married at Oxford, St. Giles in 1710, if you are interested. However, I haven't made a note of Robert's ancestry , and although I could do so, having all the published OFHS Oxon. and Berks. PR transcripts on microfiche, I can't do so at the moment as the bulb on my Fiche Reader has just blown and I can't get a replacement until my next visit to UK.

Kind regards

Keith

Hello Dawn -

Oxfordshire FHS www.ofhs.org.uk has transcribed the Steeple Barton registers. (See the CD section.)

Here are the details of the marriage - compliments of OFHS:

30 Jul 1832
Robert ABRAHAM = Martha BUCKINGHAM
(both signed with a X)
witnesses Mary NELDER, John MOLE

The baptism of Robert is also recorded on 24 Jul 1808, son of John & Martha

To carry on backwards, I recommend using the OFHS Search Services to trace earlier children of John & Martha, and then you'll have a likely date for their marriage.

Enjoy your Oxfordshire research!

Hi everyone. I am searching Abram/Abraham in Steeple Barton area of Oxfordshire.
Robert Abram was born abt 1808 and married Martha (possible Buckingham) abt 1832 . Their son John emmigrated to the US abt 1862 via Canada. Most of the remaining family followed shortly thereafter. Affiliated surnames include Smith and Parsons.
