Conrad Holsinger & Rosanna Gaerte
My most wanted ancestors are the parents of my ancestors Conrad Holsinger & Rosanna Gaerte. They were married in 1838 in Stark County, Ohio. I do have their marriage record and a newspaper mention of their marriage. I believe Rosanna's mother's first name was Rosanna as Rosanna shows up in the mortality census of 1860 having died in 1859 and the previous entry is a woman named Rosanna Gaerte old enough to be her mother and in 1850 this woman is living with a couple who in 1860 has Rosanna Gaerte Holsinger's youngest child living with them. According to census records Conrad was b. abt 1814 in PA and Rosanna was b. abt 1819 (some records say PA and others say OH.)
They lived in Stark County, OH until sometime between 1850 and 1860, then they moved to Clinton Co., MI where Rosanna died and Conrad remarried to a Sarah Gaerte Hughes who I believe may be Rosanna's niece as I have info on Sarah's father and he was to young to be Rosanna's father but may have been her much older brother. Conrad then moved to Jefferson Co., WI.

Rosanna Gaerte Holsinger d. Aug 1859 in Clinton Co., MI and they did not keep death records until 1867. I have her death date from the 1860 mortality schedule for Bingham Twp., Clinton Co., MI and from her tombstone. Conrad died in Wisconsin and I have looked for his death certificate in Jefferson Co., WI but could not find it. I have census records for this family. 1840-Lake Twp., Stark Co., OH; 1850-Marlboro Twp., Stark Co., OH; 1860-Bingham Twp., Clinton Co., MI; 1870-Lagrange Twp., Walworth Co., WI; 1880-Conrad is in Oberlin Twp., Decatur Co., KS but I think he was just on a visit (the next household is his married daughter and her husband) his 2nd wife and children were in Palmyra, Jefferson Co., WI. His tombstone is in Wisconsin and and his death date is 1897.

Attached is the Michael & Mary Freece Family in 1850 and 1860. In 1850, they had Rosanna Garte (spelling on census) living with them. In 1860, they had Lydia Holsinger living with them. Rosanna is on the 1860 mortality census for Bingham Twp., Clinton Co., MI which is where the Freece's were living in 1860.

I have searched Stark County, Ohio probates and deeds but have not found anything. I also have checked a few of Portage Co., Ohio records. I found Joshua Gaerte on a plat map and this was the father of Conrad Holsinger's second wife. I have not searched the probate or land records for Portage Co.

I found Rosanna's parents, Peter Gartee & Rosanna Williams. Also found Peter's father, Jacob Gardin and Rosanna Williams parents, Frederick Williams and Catherine Sanders or Saunders.
