Kay, I may not need it to the MyFamily sites -- I belong to the Pendleton County, etc. MyFamily website.

Margaret, Yes you need an invitation to visit any of the MyFamily sites. I will request an invitation for you. Don't know how fast they are at getting them out so give it a few days.

Thanks, Kay! I don't belong to either of these. Do I need an invitation to visit them?

Most of my ancestors that were in what is now West Virginia were in Randolph, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Barbour, Greenbrier and Hardy counties.

Thanks, Wilma -- I will look at the website but don't have any ancestors -- that I know of -- that were in the Clay County area!

Absolutely the best WV site is
http://www.wvculture.org/history/archivesindex.aspx
If you have never been on this site you are missing something. This is where you find all of the birth, marriage, and death records for each county. The earliest are in the 1800s or when ever the country started to keep records about the newest are 1957. Sometimes you have to be creative in the spelling, it does accept the * as a wild card.
MyFamily has a huge number of West Virginia websites. They have the 'old' sites and the 'new' sites and they are different logins. I belong to 17 old sites and 4 new sites. There are two Tombstone sites that only have death information on them. Calhoun, Roane, Braxton and Clay County WV Tombstones and Jackson, Ritchie & Wirt County, West Virginia Tombstones The people who belong to these sites are doing a great service - they find the old family cemeteries up on a hill behind someone's house or barn and they get permission to go in and take photos and document who is buried there. They are wonderful sites.
