I have recently upgraded my web site which, while mainly aimed at Kidney/Kitney family research has many hundreds of other Kent people listed, it's at www.kitney.com.au  Check it out.

II am interested in the ancestors and descendants of Henry CONSTABLE, born 16 May 1792, Chiddingstone, Kent, son of Humphrey CONSTABLE and Sarah SAWYER. Henry married 12 Dec 1813, Ann Austin; lived most of his adult life at Penshurst, Kent, and died 10 Jun 1874 at Sevenoaks, Kent.

My Gt. Gt. Grandfather William Farmer lived in Gravesend and earned a dishonourable mention in
"A Historical Walk Through Gravesend And Northfleet" published by Gravesend Historical Society; which was cited in Wombwell Hall .

The information I have uncovered to date indicates that William was far from a model citizen; but I would be interested in learning any additional details that have have led the author of the above publication to describe him “as a criminal and public nuisance”

I would appreciate any assistance in locating
Newspaper reports of the trial of William and his son Tom at the Quarter Sessions at Maidstone, Kent 05 July 1849 or accounts of the robbery that would have taken place in the months prior to their trial
Any accounts of William's misbehaviour following his release from the hulks (18 Feb 1856 )and his death in April 1958.
Gravesend and Milton Workhouse accounts of his last years 1856-1858

Thanks in advance

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Brenda. I'd better make a note of it :-) I will check it out on Google. Have a great weekend. Dot

Hi Dorothy,
A "Man of Kent'' comes from the south of the River Medway and a Kentish Man"" from the North according to my husband whose father was a Kentish Man!
Gravesend is, or was until recently, semi rural fishing port on the south coast of the Thames Estuary. But we have lived in New Zealand the past 20 years so guess it would have changed quite a bit. Have a look on Google Maps or Earth.

Hi all my UK genealogy buffs. I live in the States. Does anyone have any info on Stedman, Steadman families? I have some background on my family, but would appreciate any help. Also, and this may seem strange to ask, but what does it mean by Kentish men? Does that mean someone from Kent or is there another connotation for it? Sorry to have to ask what may have simple answer. Also what is the area like in Gravesend? I'm anxious to visit England one day.

Hi, I'm Nick Miskin, I live in Kent near Gravesend and have been researching Miskins in West Kent for many years, also Knights around Stockbury and nearby villages

Hi to all,
Looking for connection for surnames Stedman, Steadman in Kent, Gravesend, SevenOaks, and surrounding areas. Great grandfather Robert was born in Gravesend, came to States and settled in Illinois. Thanks for help, genealogy is addicting and fun. Have pics and info if anyone is interested.
