Just following up on the query by Sarah and Barbara in November 2010 - is there a way of disabling the sound alert which appears to be activated by each new entry in the GenealogyWise chatroom?

Same here, Barbara, and it's so annoying I just turn down my volume on the speakers. I'd like an answer to that too. Glad you brought it up.

Hello, While I hunt around for the Report an Issue link, let me ask here why I hear a funny sound... a short bing bong... when I am logged in to GenealogyWise. It concerns me and keeps me from using the site very often. Is something wrong?
Thank you. Barbara

1. I like the ability to "edit" my posts within my various groups but wonder why I can't do the same in comments to blog posts or forums.
2. To send suggestions for Genealogywise or comments on problems should not require a "group sign-up." This function should be available to any member of Genealogywise, regardless of whether or not they want to be a "groupie."

Barbara, click the Settings link located in the upper-right (under the menu bar). When the profile settings page loads, you should see the Photo option then the Email address option in the center.

Lee, the feedback is appreciated, but your tone is not. Where do you feel the "staff attitude" has put you off? I'm not staff, so if you have a problem with someone take it up with them; the comment fired in my direction is uncalled for.

This is a free site, administered by volunteers, genealogy help is provided by volunteers, technical help is provided by volunteers. Did I mention that you can join this site, contribute to it, glean information from it, all at no cost to you?

All the input boxes within GW accept most HTML code; which both of the formatting tutorials I linked to will tell you. If you want to highlight, you'll need to use code for it.

I truly do not understand what you are asking about a dictionary. Can you explain it differently, or provide an example?

If you're here to contribute your knowledge, that is great! We can always use more experts contributing. But we don't need someone who is going to be rude, belligerent, or demanding when the site doesn't function the way you think it should.

The two problem I brought to your attention does go to the site nothing else you you need a dictionary and the ability to highlight. As a researcher withmore than0 years under my belt i could offer a lot but staff attitude will probably make me withdrawal.

Lee, here's a tutorial for basic formatting, and one for advanced formatting.

I'm assuming by dictionary, you mean 'spell check'? If you use a browser like Fire Fox, this is built-in to the browser; but Ning does not have spell check built-in to it.

Here's an article on editing a post after-the-fact.

Here's some tips for searching.
