Hi-

Do you have census records for George? In a quick search, the earliest I have found him is on the WW2 draft registration, which I will post this afternoon if you need it.

Let us know what other records you have, and hopefully we can help discover George's family. :)
All I have is the WW2 card -- and obituary

His daughter Susan -- disagrees with the birthplace saying it should be Austria. Most of the family member say he came over to get away from the war -- but never says which one.

George's brother is John Evon -- Aunt Susan wrote 'but his brother John Evon came from Austria-Hungary. John Evon changed his name from Shriner to Evon to excape the army in Austria. That has been my understanding, no way to prove it." I have located a member from John's family but still at a brick wall on George himself.

Thanks for any and all help,
Julie Carr
Hi Julia-

I can't seem to find the Shriners on any census records, but I found John Evon on the WW1 draft registration and on the 1930 census. I will attach the census- let me know if you want the WW1 draft registration.

I wonder if the Shriners used another name in the 1920s and 1930s?

There must be a lot of John Evon's -- I don't think this is the right one.

I was thinking the same thing on a name change on the Shriner, but my mother-in-law's dad Paul Andrew Shriner was born in 1919 and Delores (Mother-in-law) 1941 They have always been Shriner. Aunt Sue was always a Shriner and she was born abt 1934

I'll post what I have on John Evon. Maybe it would help!

I think I found the right John in the 1920 (says he came over in 1904, but can't locate him in 1910), 1930, ww1 and ww2 card.

This is what I got form Rosemary Evon -- I have not personally confirmed the following parentage for George.

Helen is #201 -- death on stone is 1929 -- was past down has 1928. But yet today I heard that she might have died child birth of Joseph, which he has a birth year of 1927. So even more questions keep coming.

Trying to tract down Uncle Joey's address I was told today that he's hard of hearing of the phone and does not like to talk on phone.

P.S Just found an address --

What do I write to see if they have any info on Helen (Russin) Shriner?
Thanks,

yes, I do remember St. Clements being on a hill.
I also have an obituary of Helen (Russin) Shriner's sister Mary (Rosen) Popovich. Notice the spelling of the maiden name is different, but as most of us know spelling can change from one document to the next.

Mary Rosen Popovich, 97, of Scenery Hill, formerly of Eighty Four R.D.2, died at 9:05p.m. Sunday May 6, 1990, in her home following a lengthy illness. At the time of her death, Mrs. Popovich was the oldest resident of Scenery Hill, having lived there since 1951. She was born January 1, 1893, in Czechosvakia, a daughter of Mike and Mary Rosen. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Popovich was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Catholic Church of Monongahela. On February 13, 1913, she married John Popovich, who died November 1, 1965. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
I just found I found John Popovich ww2 draft registration card at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch

I went to State = Pennsylvania -- Surname letter = Po -- name = John Popovich, -- Image = 9

P.S Remember that the back of the card is probably not John's because of the mix up in scanning the images.
