Go to REPORTS - Potential Problems - Standardization and uncheck the last box (surname entered as all uppercase). Then rerun the report. Legacy is programmed to initial caps as correct and will actually display names entered that way as ALL CAPS if you set it to do so. Had the same problem when I first started.

I would think you could use either; just be consistent and have all caps or lower case. Those potential problem reports are great, I think as a recent one I printed out picked up on some simple errors I overlooked. I don't know how most handle the situation of unknown names but I put in "unknown" for a lot of people and it doesn't like that.

Potential Problems Report - I just printed one and 3/4 of my potential problems are that my surnames are in all CAPS. Is this not the standard any longer?

Moral: You can please some of the people some of the time but can't please all of the people all of the time. Like Rick, I just worked around the "problem" and see no reason to dump the program or leave the group because it's a little "trouble" to manipulate.

Geoff Rasmussen- Can you please post a link to where one can order single Training CDs? I would be interested in Guide to Sources CD and Mastering Legacy: Names, Dates, and Places, but could only find them in bundles on the LegacyFamilyTree Store.

Well...the problem I have exists with all of them and it is just a royal pain.... my middle daughter divorced her first husband and he married the third daughters husbands sister who had a daughter by middle daughters best friends husband but they weren't married and the daughters father married and his wife passed leaving her son by a previous marriage to the custody of my daughter and her (the friend's husband) ...and I really hope you followed that better than I do....

My real question though is: Why can't we use Clooz?

I realy do not know what all the bother is about. On my tree I changed the wording from husband and wife to partner and instead of saying married I changed that to same sex union. I did this with the way the program is set up and it looks very respectful for that couple. I would also say the family group sheet I sent to them contained that infromation as partners, not husband and wife. So I really do not know what all the bother is about as Legacy is so versatile you can make it do almost anything you wish. And this couple was pleased with the way I set it up.

You may ponder that but I have the same problem with people that never marry and have children. In my Ancestry file I have to make note of it but still declare a person as a spouse so the program will work correctly. Same with Legacy and the work around on there is clumsy. I wouldn't give up Legacy though for either reason. I paid good money for it and it works fine for almost all situations.

Sorry to say I'm leaving the group, and Legacy. I LOVE the programme, BUT.. a company who deals with families and family trees who in this day and age refuses to add a facility for gay couples to be listed - not good enough. I treasure ALL my family, and want to document all couples. So even though I paid for the legacy deluxe, and the training videos I'm dumping the lot and going to Family Tree Builder, which when you get into it is very Legacy like, but has the facility to add same sex couples. In other words an equal opportunity Family Tree program. So thanks for the learning curve Legacy, but FAMILY FIRST now and always. If you ever become equal opportunity, let me know, I may come back..

I have taught several Legacy classes, and always recommend their series of videos. They will help you learn the program and how to structure your locations, sources, and events. They have a very good video on handling the census information and how to record it. This allows you to detail and keep track of every person in a family group. I would buy their first series and after you have used them, do it again, several, times...you learn more every time to do. I viewed them several time, and still do it time-to-time. I really like the new source writer and the geo-location data base. Also, the location link to the BING maps, Love being able to see the location from the location list without having to open another browser and re-type the full address.
