Looking for male Richards descendants in the British Isles who have tested DNA

Most of the posts I have seen online regarding Richards in Europe seem to point to Cornwall, Devon or maybe Wales. I would be excited to compare my DNA results with male Richards descendants documented from those locations to see if they can help identify where my family came from. Anybody interested?

Hello,
My husband is a 'Richards' from Cornwall. I have only just started researching his side of the tree, but so far the Richards's have all been Cornish. We haven't done any DNA tests - to be honest I hadn't considered it before - but if it's easy to do and not too expensive, I might be able to persuade him (or his father, who still lives in Cornwall).
Anne-Marie:
There is a significant number of Richards whose lines dead-end in colonial Virginia, Massachusetts, etc. who would be interested to know how we connect in the British Isles. That won't help you in tracing the Richards line back, but if you have interest in the extended Richards families and want to know how far your husbands cousins have spread, it would be of interest.

The test is very simple. It used to be a matter of swabbing the inside of the cheek. Now I think it is just a rinse of the mouth.

The cost is around US$150 for the simplest test but periodically there will be a sale which helps.

You can find out more by logging on to Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation at www.smgf.org, or
go to GeneTree at www.genetree.com. You can also find other organizations to do this test and then enter the results in GeneTree.

I sincerely hope you decide to do this. Please keep in touch. I can be reached at crich8136@msn.com.
Thanks,
Claude Richards
Anne-Marie:

I would echo Claude's remarks from earlier. Those of us on this side of the pond sure would be interested in learning more about the Richards from our 'native' lands and how we are connected. I look forward to hearing more...

Sounds like you could save some money on a test by going to http://www.dna-testing-adviser.com/DNA-Testing-Cost.html.

Hi Claude & Ann-Marie,
Have just joined this Richards network. I live in New Zealand. My Richards forbears came from Wexford Ireland and before that supposedly Wales. I have my Y dna on the Chart that Richard Hill is administering. Have you folks had your family dna listed and compared thereon or are there numerous different charts worldwide which perhaps never get compared?

There is a very helpful class handout regarding DNA testing at http://xmission.com/~gruf/classes/dnasmgf.pdf. It says that SMGF test for free which is no longer the case. Otherwise, very good information.
