Hello,

I am researching several families on my wife's Irish side.  I am having difficulty finding their connection to the Irish mainland.  Any help would be appreciated.

1)  John Louis McCartney (spelled also as McCarthy in Louisiana records) was a sugar planter in South Louisiana.  His wedding information from Louisiana states he was the son of Bernard McCartney and Alexia McCarty of Ireland.  John was married in Assumption Parish Louisiana in 1867.  From death record he was born about 1815 in Ireland.

2)  Margaret Troy was born in Wisconsin in 1860.  She is the daughter of James and Bridget Troy both of Ireland.  James Troy was born around 1830 and Bridget around 1840.

3)  Patrick Caufield was born in 1853 along with his sister Margaret 1857) in New York.  His parents were born in Northern Ireland.  The parents were Patrick and Catherine Caufield.

Any help on these lines will be appreciated.

My ggrandfather, Alpha Buckley, was born in 1813, apparently in VA. He married Elizabeth in 1834. Alpha was a member of the first Peru, IN city council in 1867 and elected again in 1874. Alpha is my brick wall. I can't find any further information and I can't find Elizabeth's maiden name. Any help would be appreciated.

my gggrandfather was a Johnathon James Devanny dob 1809 so as you will realise i have come up against the proverbial in irish record keeping when he was born [these comments now passed down over the years] his father was never recorded and his mother could only sign with an X so today we know nothing of his heritage in parentage or siblings because of this stumbling block i know he migrated to australia [south australia] in 1850 and upon his marriage to a mary fitzgerald here in adelaide in 1852 he changed his surname to McAvaney i just wish i could find find some way of finding the beginnings of our family in ireland i have tried several sites but this "stumbling block" keeps coming up and i just cannot seem to climb over it hope someone can help me i joined this group for help please donot leave me out as i donot possess an iPod friendship to all

Hi, my paternal grandmother was Irish. Annie Smith born 1878, Crossabeg, Co. Wexford, parents, William Atkin Smith and Hannagh Walker. Sometime before 1892 the family moved to Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. Whilst working in Enniskillen Annie joined a group of Protestant brethren and subsequently became a missionary for the group. She visited Australia to "spread the word", returned to Ireland and then came back and married my grandfather in Victoria, they "spread the word" for a few years and produced my father, Charles Wilfred Heyes and his brother, Geoffrey James Heyes and eventually settled in Tasmania where my grandmother died in 1933. Annie's sister, Hannah Harriet and b-in-l, James Manning emigrated to Tasmania via NZ. Annie's sister, Bessie and b-in-l, James Bodey emigrated to South Australia. The other siblings, William Thomas, Susan and Georgina stayed in Ireland and there are no longer any living descendants. There are still descendants of Bessie, Annie and Hannah Harriet alive in Australia.
