my gggrandfather was a devanny born around county clare/sligo but as you should know of how irish records were kept prior to 1860 i am having trouble getting past his dob 1809 and i know your spelling of your surname is a variant i was wondering if you could help me out with a bit of detail on origins of surname etc please because if i can find a link it may help me solve this mystery his father was never recorded on birth register and his mother could only sign with an x he migrated to sth. aust. in 1850 and married here in 1852 under the name devanny but soon after changed it to mcavaney if you can help please reply to my private email christineread8@bigpond.com regards chris read [nee mcavaney]
