African Ancestored Genealogy

Dedicated to all things African Ancestored!

I like the inclusiveness of the term; it includes North America, South America; in fact the entire globe!

Another way of expressing this is the African Diaspora

From Wikipedia:

African diaspora; One of the largest diasporas of pre-modern times was the African Diaspora, which began at the beginning of the 16th century. During the Atlantic Slave Trade, twenty million people from West, West-Central and South-east Africa were transported to the Western Hemisphere as slaves.

This population and their descendants were major influences on the culture of English, French, Portuguese and Spanish New World colonies. The Arab slave trade also transported Africans from the continent, although the effect of the Diaspora to the east is more subtle.

It is my hope that you will participate in the discussions, contribute information, and basically get in where you fit in!

NOTE: go to http://gedergenealogy.com for additional insights into the African Diaspora!

Hi. Kernicot Brooks was born in 1842 and lived in PLEASANT GROVE. According to family history, he was a slave and lived or was married to someone named PHEBE/PHIBA.

Hello David,

We're glad you are here!

Can you tell us a little more about your Ancestor?
What is the timeframe?
Do you have any birth/marriage/death dates?

We can start a 'case study' if you like.
Let us know!

Peace,
"Guided by the Ancestors"

Do you know abt what year they where in Randolph County, N.C? and what town in that County, did they live in. Look in the census report on Ancestors.com; Family Search; Cyndislist.com these are just a few to get started.

Good Luck!

Hello. I am very excited to learn about this site and group. I have been searching for my ancestors for quite some time and always end with a road block. I have been trying to find info on a male relative that was named KERNICOT/KEARNEY/KEARY/CAREY BROOKS from RANDOLPH COUNTY, NC. How do you go about opening a few doors to get the answers you are looking for.

Registro de Esclavos - Puerto Rico
Hola Thalia,

I spoke about some newly released records from Puerto Rico that are now on Footnote. Records from the 1870s in Puerto Rico contain information from tre Registro Central de Esclavos a large registry of slaves. These were documents listing slaves being freed in 1872, and they are from 6 districts. San Juan records are listed under Capital, and the other communities (Dorado, etc.) are listed by community. I spoke about this in my recent two podcasts on AfricanRootsPodcast.com . If you can't access them, let me know.

Hello All,

I'm in the process of uploading to My Page photocopies of documents collected during my family research. I've started by placing some documents pertaining to Lewis Adams a paternal great-great-great grandfather who was born a slave in 1785, manumitted in 1813 and died a frree man of color in 1864. Lewis Adams is an inspiration to me and ALL of his Adams descendants. I have documented over 2,500 of those descendants to date.

Hi George (this is kind of a follow-up) to Lisa... You probably know this already George but as group moderator you can untick in your SETTINGS the radio button that allows group members to post to *all* members of the group

I have done that for all the groups I established here on GenealogyWise, as one person was splatting constant emails to all the other members and it was very annoying.

Just a thought, but personally I see no reason why any member needs to have access to easily post to all of us.

Hello!

I'm wondering if there's a way to find a list of the slaves in Puerto Rico?
I don't have a name yet, but I'm very sure that there is some of them in my family. :D
