Can you give me a little more information on Ellen Kristine Roed? Like a city or parish and a little narrower window as to the possible birth year? If so, I would be glad to check the parish register for you.

thank you so much for answering me. im sorry i didnt say anything before now but havent been on the danish group. ive been mostly on southeast ohio for my husband and germany and sweden for me. danish site is also for me. i was told by my mom whos gone now that a relative live in denmark and germany had taken over that part. he didnt want to fight for the german army so he came over because he was paid to fight in the civil war. he never had to. so does that mean it was part of germany and denmark took it and then germany took it back?

Molly: Many of my relatives live in Aalborg. It's a pretty big city but you might try to use Google and type Aalborg and photos. It will bring us some extensive photos of the city. Look for Klaarup photos as well. Klaarup is just barely outside Aalborg and is the town where my folks live.

It depends on the time frame that you are looking at. The Slesvig-Holstein area went back to Germany in the 1860s, census records before that time can still be found with the Danish records and the same is true for parish records.

how does it work if the part of denmark that my relatives are from was taken over by germany?

Larry: Thank you for you pleasant response. I have located most of my information via the Arkivalieronline. Of course, much stumbling to read and guess at the translation, but has been quite intriguing.

My great-grandfather Jens Nielsen was born in Aalborg. Does anyone know where I might find some pictures of the area so I can see what kind of land he grew up in?? Thanks.

Sheryl: Almost all of my family is from either Haderslev or Ribe Amt. Gording is where my cousin lives today...a beautiful area. None of my ancestors have the same surnames as your though...still I'm glad to have you in the group.
