NOTES ON TWISS FAMILY OF SHROPSHIRE,ENGLAND AND KERRY, IRELAND

The TWISS family of SHROPSHIRE (ALICE AND ROBERT) had humble beginnings. They owned a small but prosperous farm. RICHARD TWISS (my 7th gt grandfather) youngest son B.1609 died 1682 was recruited as Land Agent for LORD CHERBURY, in Kerry, IRE. in 1656.  Richard Twiss father died c.1630 and left him fourteen pounds, but farm went to ADAM, his older brother. ALICE SPEAKE TWISS (Richard's mother) left him Ten pounds.   About 1633 Richard Twiss married SARA X. A son was born 1634 and baptised 17th Jan.1635. A daughter was born 1638 and died 1642. SARA died 1640. Proof of death is on English Parish Registers, likewise Robert and Alice on birth and burial registers respectively.  In 1642 RICHARD TWISS married JANE X. She was mother of RICHARD jr. b.1643, MARY (MARIE) b.1645 and GEORGE b. 1650.

MARY (MARIE) born Shropshire 1645 married GEORGE RADLEY ESQ of KNOCKRAUR, CORK IRE. Had one known son FRANCIS RADLEY ESQ born circa 1666/76  FRANCIS RADLEY of KNOCKRAUR married CATHERINE HALL in 1696 .

RICHARD TWISS Sr. was married only twice. No.1  SARA.... son Robert  No.2 JANE X.....Children were Richard, Mary,George. There is a FRANK TWISS mentioned as Richard SR'S SON, BUT I suspect he was a grandson of Richard SR. RATHER THAN HIS SON.  We have proven sources for the TWISS family of Shropshire. English Parish Registers, Wills of Alice and Robert Twiss and HERBERT CORRESPONDENCE (Letters to Lord Cherbury from Land Agents).
