So you are in the US and from Thomas Balfour I didn't know he had a second name it was not recorded on the will of Robert who was married to Janet Young what does the G stand for do you know,
I hadn't come across the Robert Louis Stevenson connection as the Scottish records are hard to access but a cousin in Victoria Australia purchased the will of Robert Balfour he died on the 15th May 1873 and his will gave the names of his children and where they were and for some gave their occupation. I will forward that to you but it is too long to post on here. somehow we will need to exchange emails if you ask Jim Avery for my email I will ask him to pass it on to you.
I dont have the burial of Robert or Janet but he was a Linen manufacturer the factory was near the river as in the process they used quite a bit of water there was a painting of Dunfirmline done by one of the Higgs family and in it it shows the factory, the Balfours and the Higgs were not related then but when Adam Balfour brother of Thomas etc married in Australia he married Patience Hobson the daughter of a Hobson and a Higgs her mother was a cousin of the artist.
In his will he stated that one part share was to go to his son Thomas Balfour Engineer New Your United State of America and he also said that a share was to go to his daughter Christian Balfour or Irwin wife of William Irwin Merchant in Janefield Untied States of America so there would be other cousins in the US as well I have found a census which has William and a daughter on it she is an adult
Opps I am using a mobile internet connection and it is blinking telling me I am over my allowance so will contact you later when I get home

Would you have any information on Alex G. Wilson b.1865 in Alabama? He married Sarah E. Taylor and have a child Lee Curtis Wilson b. 1889 who is one of my ancestors.
Joe, You were telling me you had a relative who was in the 15th Alabama at Gettysburg. The 15th Alabama had marched 13 miles to get to Gettysburg. Their first action was to take Big Round Top. Many of the men fainted on the way up because they had no water. Following taking Big Round Top They were ordered to take Little Round Top This was portrayed in the movie Gettysburg. The following link shows the famous bayonet charge by Chamberlain down the hill. The unit they are charging against is the 15th Alabama! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqT8PMBtIKI&feature=related Did you get goose bumps watching it? What do you think?
Hi Joe - I keep missing your personal message in the chat room. You wanted to know about military records. What side was your ancestor on? What state did he serve from and what was his name?

Mostly Missouri in Nodaway County. I know that some of my Treese's came from Ohio, but I haven't done much with that part yet. Where are yours from?
