This is a photo of my great-great grandmother and her daughter, who married a Wilder. Probably taken in Fort Bend, Co. TX.

What names and areas do you have for the Pettyjohn family? My grandmother was originally a Pettyjohn in South Georgia area.

The Wilder line I am researching were in Watertown, NY in the early to mid 1800's. It is my husband's line and we do not know a lot about them. His great-grandmother was Helen "Nellie" Wilder, who was probably the daughter of David and Adah Wilder.

Ok, if you are in VT in the 1700s, you are probably either from the Northern branch of Nicholas Wilder's descendants or from an entirely different line. I would suggest joining the northern wilder list and hopefully you can find the connection there! :o)

You might be from the Northern branch of the Wilders that came over around the same time. I can't remember the name of the immigrant, but I believe he was either Edward's brother or cousin and went up towards MA area if I remember correctly. Both that Wilder and Edward are descendants of Nicholas Wilder from the 1400s who was in Germany and England. The lines from these 2 brothers is very interesting, the VA/southern line ended up in the northern US for the most part and the MA/northern line ended up in the southern part of the US! Very confusing! Have you joined any of the Wilder email lists on Rootsweb? There is a general list for the Wilder surname, a list for the southern branch of the Wilders, and then a list for the Northern line (which I moderate the 3rd list). Who is the furthest back you can trace on your Wilders? You mention IN>NY on your page, it's possible they came from IL>IN>NY and if that is the case, you *may* be from the Edward Wilder line. Of course not all the Wilders in the US are from these 2 brothers, but they had LOTS of descendants in the US! Especially in the IL area. My direct line stayed in IL, but some went on to TX and some may very well have gone to IN in the early 1800s.

The Wilder's are on my husband's side of the family. They're from South Carolina (Orangeburg) dating back to the 1800s.. We have a R.S. Wilder(1826) who married Mary E.(1835) and they had a Ida Mae Wilder(1864) who married a Sam Dempsey(1838-1934)..

Hi! My mom is a Wilder and her line descends from Edward Wilder in VA in the 1600s and that line goes down into NC, then to KY and TN, then on to IL where they stayed, first in Greene Co. area then on to Douglass Co., McLean Co., and finally Champaign Co.
