No, I don't have ancestors in Washington County. Iam resesrching in Fulton, Dekalb, Henry, Meriwether, Harris, Pike and Troup.  Maybe our research paths will cross.

Hello Allen.  I saw you in chat last night, and noticed that you are researching the surname Moore.  So am I.  I have English Moore's on my Mom's side and Irish Moore's on my Dad's.  Where are yours from?

well it looks like there were quite a few Phelps in Tyrell, NC in the 1790 census

Allen, from what I have read, yes this Phelps line is from NC, Zodock Phelps came to IL in the early 1800's. He is llisted in the Tyrell, NC marriage records as marrying an Ann in1789.
He shows up in Jefferson Co, IL in 1820. I have sons shown as Loderick/Laderick Phelps, Frederick,Samuel, Silas & John.

I have an obit for Henry Stohner. He is listed as H.H. Stohner on one obit. As far as I can tell he died Nov. 14 1903.
I have census with him and have also seen him as Harry Stohner.
Some of the census(we all know names can be misspelled) he is listed as Stoner,Stiener.

Allen, thank you so much. I have really enjoyed reading through everything you sent to me. I did get some ideas of where to search next in Georgia records. I have Ancestry.com now and am learning my way around in there also. There were some very humorous articles in the paperwork and some terminology I am not familiar with...more opportunities for research! Again, I really appreciate your taking time and effort to do what you did to help me get started. If there is anything that I can do to repay you, please let me know. i would be more than happy to help you and "pay it forward."

Ugghhh, you're right, it's terrible! Or at least the preliminary search I did, it's kind of confusing, but it doesn't allow you to see anything. What's the purpose? When I get a chance I'll try some other things, but my first impression is...dump it, and try again.

I haven't tried MARS in a while, although I did know they were doing some changes on the Archives website and there's a lot of new stuff there. I know that Erin Bradford has been working on a lot of transcribing projects there and she said there were a lot of changes coming. I also used to use the Cohabitation Records there too,to get more details than are included in the "Sombody Knows My Name..." book, but it was always so awkward to find them especially since I wanted to browse them. I've got to take a look and check it out. Thanks for the alert.
