Hello,

I'm new to the site and would like to ask advice of all those who can answer the following question. Is the latest Family Tree Maker Program, 2014???, worth upgrading my system to. I currently have an older version, 5.0, which has been upgraded to 10.0. I have a lap top computer with windows 7. The older program works ok, but, I always get the message, "done with problems" or "errors on page" at the bottom left of the screen. I have more than 11,000 names in the program with probably 100-200 pictures. No videos.

How long will I be able to continue to use my current version? I do not know if it will work with windows, 8, 9 etc as the systems get newer.

If I do upgrade how easy is it to do? Will it just automatically fill in the newer data, like when I upgraded to 7.0 than 10.0?

Thank you for all help,

Glen

Upgrading to FTM 2014 does have issues, in fact FTM 2012 had issues as well. I'm surprised your older version works at all with Win 7. FTM newer programs are very different so you need to learn how to use it. Once you upgrade you can't go back so save your old setting. Although I do use FTM 2012 and 2014 (old habits) I also have Legacy 8.0 which in may ways I think is better then FTM. I have friends who left FTM for Legacy due to all the issues FTM has. I do use both programs for some of my numerous family files. The only reason some still use FTM is for the active up loading link to ancestry. They are both about the same price. Check out the website for both programs where you can look at the features available. There are also other programs available so look around.
