Update to "What Do You Do ?"

This is an update to an earlier post "What Do You Do ?" where I talked about finding a gedcom online and not knowing the resources or who posted it. Well I contacted the "poster" and got a reply, but he didn't exactly elaborate on his sources or the work overall. The answer's I was looking for sort of went "unanswered". Kind of makes me suspicious but hey, genealogy…

What Do You Do ?

While searching for some information on my paternal side I stumbled across a gedcom that had been uploaded on Ancestry.A familiar name caught my eye that was my 2nd great grandfather so upon closer examination of the gedcom I discovered it covered a section of my paternal line all the way back to my 9th great grandfather. We're talking over 400 years and a trip to Scotland and England probably and years worth of research…

Granny loved sex !

I bet this title grabbed your attention, but it's true,I have proof. Granny loved sex, should I be posting that little tidbit ? Is that to much information ? I thought it was when I first read it when Granny was cut off from my grandfathers civil war pension. My 2nd great grandfather died after the battle of Chicamauga,he died at Shellmound,Tennessee in 1863. Cades Cove Tennessee

Even though my wife isn't a member of genealogy wise I thought I would mention her Tennessee Tipton connection. My wifes mother had a professional genealogist do their family research some years ago and a book was written about the Tiptons from Tennessee,we donated one book to the Estill County Historical Society & gave another as a gift to her sister. (Of course now I wish we had a third book)

My wifes 5th or 6th great grandfather was William Tipton a veteran of the… Continue

Our ancestors as slave owners

I just read and commented on a ladies blog about her 3rd great grandfather being a slave owner and fathering children by his slave and then keeping them as slaves. It is beyond my comprehension how a person could do this. I've seen the movie Roots several times and it is a fantastic look into our past as a nation. But what amazed me is how the people of the time could have these high morals and go to church every week and turn around and beat and maim their slaves plus father children by a race… Continue

Why you shouldn't do genealogy !

Every time I discover something new about family it's exciting as it should be,but some things are down right spooky. It's that instance that sends your mind wondering, you start to question your own existance or wonder how the family line survived for 200 years without imploding.

What am I talking about ? I'm talking about cousins marrying cousins !! And not distant cousins as in 5th cousin 10 times removed. I'm talking first and second cousins. In todays world we can avoid… Continue
