Cox Family in Greene Co, PA and WV

I am looking for parents of my ancestor, Isaac Cox, who married Mary Wise.  Isaac & Mary moved from Greene Co, PA to WV (then VA) sometime around the mid-1800's.  If you have any info on this line of the Cox family, please let me know.  Thank you.

Photo Day

Today I've been sick, matter of fact, I've been sick for the last several days. Despite it all, today has been a good day.  Why?  Today I put photos on my GenealogyWise page.  Photos that are vivid because I can remember when some of them were taken.

Looking at pictures of my grandmother, Maud Wise Hairston, and putting them on this site.  Aiming that not only does her life continue because of her children, their children, but her name continues because I won't let it die.  She died…

Validation

I'm searching for an answer to a story that only I was told, or so I believe because no one else knows about it.  One day in the late 60's my grandmother told me story.  It wasn't a made-up before you go to bed story.  It was with wistfulness and cloudy eyes.  The kind that you share and it makes you happy and sad at the same time.  Why me and why that day, could it had been preordained that genealogy would be my forte?

She spoke about when she was little and how she and her…

Genealogy Wise: My New Home

When you first get the keys to a new home you are overcome with cognitive dissonance. The uncomfortable tension of feeling elated that you have purchased a house, but overcome with fear regarding the enormity of the responsibility. On a smaller scale, signing up for a new social networking site can have the same feelings of cognitive dissonance. A new member is excited about the possibilities of meeting new people, networking and learning with and from other members, and excited to share their… Continue

More Swartz info!

I got Jacob Swartz' will transcribed and was a bit surprised by what it contains. It definitely narrows down his death date and separates his children into first wife and second wife.

In a nutshell, here is what it says:

10 April 1852 - original will made. Gives $5 each to sons Frank, Anthony and Joseph. Leaves all land, stock and personal goods to wife Gertrude. Sons Nicholas, John and Peter to divide said property after her death.

14 May 1854 - codicil made.… Continue

Finally - I found them - sort of

Actually, it's more than a sort of.

My search goal at the Family History Library in Salt Lake for today was to find out something (anything) on Jacob Swartz and his wife Gertrude. I knew that he was born around 1798 in Prussia; immigrated in 1843 via Rotterdam with 3 children and no wife; married Gertrude in Ohio before 1847, when their first son, John was born; and died between 1855 (when the last child was born) and 1860 (when Gertrude and the kids are living with her new husband,… Continue
