For years I have been blaming The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose 'Ancestry' family trees are - or were - notoriously difficult to amend, and hence never were.
This year, Millennia Corporation will be celebrating their 29th year in business, and the 17th year since they first released their Legacy Family Tree genealogy software.
Legacy is a feature-rich package that lets you chart family trees, record details about individuals, and otherwise track your family…

I have very few tools I use for my family history research, and maybe someone can point me in the right direction to improve my "toolbox" but I thought I'd share.
- FamilySearch - Absolutely phenomenal collection of records. I realize they are busy, but I do hope that more amateur researchers like me can get access to more records soon, like the family trees and such.…

Most of us have them. If we could explain them or even get rid of them, we would have greater success in our family tree research.
Unexplained gaps can be the reason for your family tree's brick wall. There are many kinds of gaps to look for. Some gaps can be explained, others cannot. If left unpursued, we may never uncover the "full truth" about the family. Below are some examples.…

Writing in his blog,
Genealogy's Star,
James Tanner argues the point that hitting the 'Backup' button on Personal Ancestral File (PAF) does not really solve the problem of providing a secure second copy of the PAF file, as, if the hard drive goes, both the main and the backup files are lost.
I suppose he is not wrong, but is he…

I was prompted by a post in the Legacy Users group to check my database for duplicate and inconsistent entries.
I have collected and collated individual contributions, downloaded GEDCOMs and pulled in family trees from a variety of sources. And they are all different! Or so it seems.
How many different ways are there to enter Arlington Cemetery? Or to spell Massachusetts? (I had to spell check it, so I hope it is right?)
However, the thing that surprised me most…

Most of the time when your computer does not do what you want it to do, it is usually because you have not given it correct instructions.
For example, if you try to maximize a program's window, but instead the program closes, it's likely that you clicked the tiny close button (the small X in the upper right of the program's window) instead of the tiny maximize button (the button immediately to the X's left). Has this ever happened to you? This is known as "operator error". In other…

I still love birthdays. When I was little my mom hung streamers, balloons, and a big Happy Birthday sign on the wall. Today, my wife continues the tradition, minus the streamers and balloons. I still get the big sign. And I still look forward to it. Maybe I'm just trying to hold on to my youth. (I did find my first grey hair this year though....)
Today marks the birthday/anniversary of a different kind. It's now been four years since our first Legacy News blog article was…
