The Wolford Connection - John Wohlfart Sr's Will (Centre Co PA)

This is the John Wolford who I posted about before Philip. Spelling should have been Wohlford or Wohlfart.

Any of you who followed the Jerry Sandusky trial last week, caught glimpses of the beautiful courthouse where the trial was held in Bellefont PA. That is the same courthouse where brothers John and Philip filed their wills. I believe the older wills are now in the hands of the historical society.

John's children began the migration of Wohlfords. Kleckners and Snooks from…

Nova Scotia to Maine to Missouri

Ireland is said to be the starting point of my Father's line, where in Ireland I am yet to find. His name was A. Homer Carr and I have traced the records back to Nova Scotia Canada, Orland Maine and Milton Mass.

My Mother, Millie M. Litty was the daughter of Albert Litty. I have traced that name back to Bern Switzerland.

It is the most difficult to find the grandmothers! Millie M. Jones, Litty, (Reynolds) born 1850 and died 1885. I am searching for her parents. (Crawford County…

History of the United States Flag

Flag History for the United States was presented at our local meeting yesterday.

It started way back  during the Crusades the beginning of our flag. It was designed, changed, redesigned and altered and changed more until we got to the British and the Scot's mingling it together.  Yes, they did.

It was brought to this country after more mingling and need of a flag separate from Britian. A standard was needed to show the colonies.

  Many changes took…

1940 Census The Gardners

Many of us are stepping into the 1940’s by way of the US Census. Our family has been busy with weddings this spring; our son’s and our nephew’s. Now that they are behind us and those young men have happily begun married life I have had an opportunity to begin my search.

I was happy to discover that New York State has been indexed. The first people I wanted to find were my mother and her parents, the Nathaniel Gardner family in New York City. Thanks to ancestry.com I found them…

An Introduction

Hello!

I'm new to Genealogy Wise, but not to genealogy itself, so I thought I'd start off with an introduction post.

On my Mum's side I have a collection of common names and very uncommon names. My maternal grandmother's line follows the Harrises of Upper Holloway in Islington, London and the Nevols family of Shropshire (the spelling of "Nevols" appears to be unique to my family line so if you have that spelling in your ancestry there's a high chance you're…

Every Memory of Your Life Stored Forever – MyLifeBits Project

What would it look like if you had a computer with every single memory stored on it forever? You would be able to access every webpage you’ve ever looked at, every email you’ve read, every photo you’ve taken or been in, videos of your public speeches, records of conversations. Everything that you felt was important or not important stored away for you to review or others to find out about you.

Back in the late 1990′s Gordon Bell decided, like many of us, to start scanning and…

Searching for records on Isaac Gray family prior to their settling in Hardin County, Ohio.  They supposedly came to Hardin County from Franklin County Ohio.  Isaac was born in Maryland 1798.  Unable to locate anything prior to their settlement in Hardin County.  Parents unknown.  Wife is Catherine Calvert/Corbin/Corbett and could have been born DE, PA, Germany. Eldest son called her Alcy.

A 50 Year Search Yields An Amazing Gift! Never Give Up!

Wanted to share an amazing experience with all of you at Genealogywise.com.  For decades, I have sought information on my great, great grandmother "Bridget Galway", who immigrated to the US, from Ireland.  The only information with which to search was the fact that she married a French immigrant, Andre.  As her grandchildren aged, I asked questions and mentally stored tidbits of information they revealed.  None of them had ever met Bridget who died fairly young.  My grandmother only spoke of…
