please."<br />
<br />
At precisely 8:00 PM on Thursday, Melinda's mother heard a polite rap at<br />
the door which she opened to find, in mess dress, four handsome, smiling<br />
black naval officers.<br />
<br />
Her mouth fell open, but pulling herself together, she stammered, "There<br />
must be some mistake."<br />
<br />
"No, Maam," said the first officer. "Captain Goldstein never makes<br />
mistakes."Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!tag:www.genealogywise.com,2009-12-24:3463583:BlogPost:2145572009-12-24T17:09:23.000ZSpiveyhttp://www.genealogywise.com/profile/Spivey
I hope everyone enjoys this Christmas season, and has a healthy and happy New Year's day! Don't watch too much football, it's not good for you! LOL.

My daughter's grandfather was not so fortunate. He lived in Elloree, Orangeburg, South Carolina and died of the plague in April, 1918. He did not live on a farm, although I believe he worked on one. I am getting the impression that he lived in a much more urban setting than did my mother and her family. [A sad note: there is no burial information at all on his death certificate, and I am left wondering if he was simply cremated.]<br />
<br />
Does anyone know if the advent of the plague affected the census of 1920? If so, was the effect felt more in certain states than in others?<br />
<br />
I am posting this query in my blog because I am not sure how to reach the members here through another method. Please bear with me.<br />

Thank you.<br />

As I was adding photos to this site, I thought of all the love, caring, sacrifices and other acts of human kindness those photos evoked about my family members. Sometimes we get lost in the day-to-day emotional moments and forget what great triumps and achievements our family members have accomplished. Today, I got a reminder of how beautiful my family members are. Sometimes it takes a look over the history to remind us of this. Spivey

Thanks for the warm welcome I have received. I think I have been looking for a place like this for the 12 years I have been involved in genealogy research. I have two places I have been with for over 10 years, but they are Yahoo! Groups. This forum offers so much more and it is just what a genealogist needs in the days when the 'free' providers are cutting back. Thanks ever so much, and I hope this forum is around for a long, long, time. Spivey
