For what reason did you start genealogy research?

I started when I was about 12. I am an avid reader, always have been, and love history and people. My mother had a book on her DeMilt, Demill Family that was published in 1952. I was in it. Whenever I didn't have a book to read, starting at about age 6, I would read that book.
Geneology is not just names and dates and places to me. Knowing them as people helps me know why I am as I am!
