For what reason did you start genealogy research?

I am only child and my children are asking about their ancesters. My parents are from Rochester NY and Moore Family (mother's side, James Moore and Ella Bridget Casey) goes back to Ireland via Canada. I can find no info yet about father, Harold R Williams and would appreciate any help.
