Thanks for your reply Tom ... while John, James and Margaret are such common names that there's nothing conclusive ... they are all names that appear repeatedly in my tree, so it does seem possible we're distant relations. Kilmaurs had a population of just over 1000 in the mid-1800s and I'd imagine most Muirs living there would have been related to one another. You can email me directly at roberta@food-wine-travel.com if you like. Do you have an Ancestry tree or any documents regarding Alexander's parents? Birth, death, marriage certificates? It would be good to see fi we can find a connection. Roberta!

Hi Tom ... not so far, but I'm really only just starting to explore my Muir ancestors.

Your Alexander could have been brother or cousin to my great-great grandfather, John Muir, whose parents were possibly James and Margaret Muir ... do you have anymore details on Alexander's parents or siblings?
