Thank you very much for the detailed information! I will add it to my family tree and see what else I can find out about them. If you'd like any info on Peter Philp Jr (Mary Karpinske's husband) please just let me know.

Oh, OK, now I get it too :-) I never traced what happened to Agnes as I only had her down as Aggie. I didn't even realize she had married a Karpinske. Did Mary and Agnes have any other siblings? I've only got the two of them in my records.

Whoops, I double-checked my records and I actually do know her maiden name--it's Kautalska. Also, I misremembered--she went by "Katie" more often than "Kate."

Hi Suzanne,
No, you didn't screw up! It sounds like we are researching different Marys. I wonder if perhaps they were cousins. My Mary was born around 1883, probably in Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Katherine "Kate," maiden name unknown, and probably John Karpinske. In the 1900 census she was living in Watertown. In 1901 she married Peter Philp in Watertown. In 1904 she died giving birth to her second child, Ruth, who was put up for adoption by Peter (who abandoned their first child and left Watertown).

How about your Mary?

Hi Suzanne,
There's a good chance. The Karpinskes/Karpinskis I am researching lived in the Watertown area of Codington Co. Mary Karpinske married my great-grandfather's brother. She died giving birth to their second child.

What Karpinskes are you researching?

Thanks for contacting me!
