Hi Sue,

Sorry for not responding sooner.  Angus Matheson was not a half-brother to the Archbishop, but my great grandfather, Alexander Matheson, born in Red River in 1850, was his immediate older brother.  You can email me at cathiemorgan7@gmail.com if you want to chat further about this.

My eyes skipped right over Margaret Gunn in your first message. Her husband, Angus Matheson, was the son of the one I call "the other" Alexander Matheson, the one who, as far as I know, was not related to my ancestor; b. abt 1771. This Angus was born about 1813. His older half-brother was John "Pagee", b. abt. 1797.

My great-great grandfather Alexander, b. abt 1781, was the father of John "Bushy", b. 1814, who was the father of Samuel, the Archbishop.

So, as I said in an e-mail message, my info was correct but has nothing to do with the question. I just wanted to make a correction in case anyone else comes along and reads this.

Hi Sue,

My understanding of the Matheson genealogy is:

"Big Angus" was actually born about 1785. My great-grandfather, "Little Angus" (1810-1898) was the son of Alexander, b abt 1781, the older brother of "Big Angus."

John "Bushy", 1814-1898, was "Little Angus" younger brother and the father of Samuel, the Archbishop (1852-1942).

The McRae line does not immediately come to my eyes. I don't offhand know anything about that.

My e-mail is edith97062@yahoo.com. I live in Tualatin, Oregon, just south of Portland.
