Thomas Grant was my oldest known relative. He was married to Sarah Glover. Thomas' birth year was believed to be 1778, as he was noted in a depositon in 1838 as being 60 years of age. He was said to have been from Scotland. Sarah was born in 1784 and was said to have been born in Northern Ireland. Thomas died in late 1838, as court records regarding his death started in January 1839 and continued through 1841. Sarah moved with the family to Mississippi and later to Texas. Most of the family settled in Robertson County, TX, but at least one, Richard G. Grant, settled near Fort Gates in the area now known as Gatesville. Family stories suggest Thomas was indentured to gain passage to America. No proof has surfaced regarding how he got to America. He was first documented in 1815 in the Maury County, TN court records.
