Where's your family from? or how I got started in Genealogy

Do you know that kind of know it all kid we all had in class when we were growing up? The one that always had the right answers and sometimes corrected the teacher. Well that was me growing up. I was always able to remember those odds and ends pieces of information that the teachers would test you on. I was really bad back when I was in the seventh grade. I would get tests back with answers marked wrong, then go back to the teacher and prove that my answer was the correct one. I laugh about it…See More

"Where is your Reuben Ratliff from in VA.? I have a Nathan Ratliff in Montgomery Co. that I joined DAR throughh. I also have another Ratliff line that seems to be going to Botetourt or near there. Both lines end up in Pike County, Ky."

Ray, Akers, Vires/Viers/Viars, Sloas, Morrison, Clay, Stanley, Ratiliff, McKinney, Jackson, Lowe, Staton, Young, Branham, Sturgill/Sturgeon,Fuller, Prillaman, Keithley, Staton to name a few.
What countries and other locations are you interested in researching?
Mostly Eastern Kentucky and Virginia with forays into the Carolinas.
What is your level of genealogy knowledge?
Intermediate Family History Researcher
For what reason did you start genealogy research?
I started doing research because some one asked me a question about my family I couldn't answer. "Where is your family from?" I have been trying to answer that question for the last 32 years.
