This Ferraby family portrait includes your Gr Uncle. Unfortunately I'm not exactly sure which one he is.  Do you have a Kenneth Tyrer in your tree - married to a Laura D?  If so I'd like to find out more!

Hi Christina You are correct. Ed & Mary never had any children, so there are no descendants to add. Ed passed away in 1974, I think and Mary passed away in 2006. Mary's legal name according to records was Marika. Although they never had…

Wow! Thank you. These are some of the few pictures I have seen of my great uncle. I can send you one of him as a boy but that's about all I have. So your great aunt and my great uncle married....

This is absolutely fascinating. I had the name of Mary Demenchuk (with a question mark over the spelling) which came from my second cousin, the late Judy Weikum, who you may know was also an avid Canadian family historian. So this puts faces to…

Finally, some info on Charles R. Turnbull

On ancestry's web trees, another user has my great-great grandfather's brother, and I have noticed he has changed the parents names a few times over the past couple years, so after I received some info from books, I sent him an email with what the books say. This is part of the email I sent, I am hoping I hear from him, and perhaps he knows more but never posts it, but perhaps this can break the ice and we can share more.___________I received a photo copy of a page from History of Wells County,…See More

Nicole- We did have someone the other day create about 20 fake member profiles and then post spam. As soon as I saw it, I terminated their membership If you see this happening, please either click on the "Report an Issue" link at the…

Spammers - Could a "Report this" button be added to blogs and profiles?

I've noticed quite a few fake blogs posting nothing but spam links. Many other sites have a button on all posts and profile to report to the administrators of the site if someone is a spammer.Could a feature like this be added here?See More

I find an illustration explains it best. There is a chart on the cousins page on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin

This means English Canada (pre-1867), which is Ontario now. I have relations who went from Ontario to N. Dakota, and this is how they were recorded in US censuses.

Having the flexibility is better than web toes. Not that I have web toes. It's the closeness of the cousin marriage that worries me. If the marriages were 6-10 generations back no problem, but mine are a lot closer. You know the old saying "there are no branches on this family tree". LOL

Thanks for your comments on my blog.So far I haven't run into any family "mutants" due to the cousin-marriages but I'm always on the lookout.

I'm only two and a half years old in my work ... just a toddler really. Guess I'm especially drawn to blog entries in which the researcher shares images, emotions, and stories. The names, the dates, the locations in which our people lived and worked ... yes, all of that is essential. But for me it's the stories that bring them to life once again. Sometimes I become so "involved" with an individual, I could swear that I know him or her.

Best wishes on your journey.

Katie

Genealogy & my view of H1N1 and the possibilities of pandemic and vaccines.

We are lucky to be living in a time when someone's life expectancy is so much higher. It is a cleaner and safer world thanks to advances in medicine and sanitation.

Despite all the positive benefits of modern medicine, there are so many people living now who are wary of modern medicine. Among my social group (between the ages of 30 and 55), I know of more than a dozen who will not be getting the vaccine for H1N1.

All these people live a modern North American life, none of… Continue

My Nana's family - Demenciuks no matter how you spell it

My Nana, my dad's mom, was born Mar 22 1910 in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, Canada and she passed away on Mar 3 1984 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Her parents were named Nicholas and Laura. Both her parents passed away long before I was born. My information on Laura is scant, but as for Nicholas, I know he was from Boian, Bukovina, in the Austrian Hungarian Empire.

Nicholas came to Canada with his brother John, and two other brothers followed, Vacile, and Peter. Peter passed away when… Continue

Great Grandma Hazel Koenen (nee Turnbull)'s Funeral

My great grandma Hazel Margaret Turnbull she was born on Aug 15 1897 in Fessenden, Wells, North Dakota, USA and passed away in a nursing home on Jun 22 1993 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.

I was a month over my 22 birthday, and in a relationship with a caring and creative boy who drank too much and encouraged me to drink too. We lived with in a beautiful heritage building here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (The building was the Congress, and is beside the Canadian Red Cross). My mom… Continue

Clue finding in genealogy from someone without a clue...

Here is an example of the clue finding I am doing, since I don't know an ancestors family information.

Take where your family was, and see if there are more people with the same last name in the same area. They could be cousins, siblings, nephews, and nieces. Look for similar naming patterns too.

Here are the Turnbull's in Township 11 Meridian 4.…
