Hi Neil,

Thank you so much for responding to my query concerning the exact Irish origins of the Hillarys buried in Bulla Cemetery. It is interesting to note that we may both have origins in a small area in County Clare. (There are no Reddans in Carrowduff, Co. Clare either in the 1901 or 1911 Census of Ireland. There are Reidys there (spelt Ready in earlier documents).

I am wondering if you know if there is any direct mention of the exact townsland from where Irish emigrants came in any historical records in Australia.  The Ships' Lists refer to the county of origin as do many other official documents that I have viewed on-line. Without this information it can be difficult to trace exact members of a family, whose name is common in a particular county.

                                     Thanks for all your help,

                                              Anne Hillery

Neil,

I am researching members of the Hillary family (generally spelt Hillery in Ireland) that emigrated to Australia in the late 1850s-1860s and have got valuable information from the Ships' Lists (family may have travelled on the 'Constantine' in 1855 and the 'James Lawrence in 1862).  They came from the townland of Carrowduff in County Clare, Ireland.

When I Googled 'Hillary Australia Carrowduff', the Bulla Cemetery Register appears and these three words are highlighted in the information blurb under the website name.  There are several entries of Hillarys (Reg 951-956) in this site. What is puzzling me is that on any of the entries given, I can see no reference to Carrowduff and am wondering why it appears in the initial Google information piece.  Is there more information available that I cannot locate on the site? The people buried here are probably children of the initial immigrants. I would love to find out more about these people.

I would be very grateful if you could be of some assistance to me in this matter,

                                                 A. Hillery
