Oooooooops - I didn't mean it like THAT

Posted on May 17, 2010 at 6:40pm 0 Comments

I was just on the phone to one of the largest cemeteries in the State, talking to the Gate House guard who handles deceased searches, and what do you know I did an oopsie! I said I was looking for a person called Abadee, died 1965 and according to gossip, not fact was buried at Fawkner. Now her husband Henry was definately there, I could find him on their web site, but her, nup! So he asked me her name and I said "I'm looking for a Fanny!" ............... hmmmm! He laughed, and… Continue

When a co-incidence in genealogy makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end

Posted on April 5, 2010 at 12:08am 1 Comment

Well, we all know co-incidences happen, but sheesh, just lately genealogically speaking they're jumping out at me. For instance.

Have connected with a Jewish Lady for my Isaacs research and somehow we get talking about "The Camps" and I say my dad (not Jewish) was in Somme Kasserne as a…

Backing up your family tree

Posted on January 29, 2010 at 6:33pm 2 Comments

Ok, I admit, it was my fault, I hadn't backed up my tree for TWO whole months, and then kabang - computer dies, loose all my photo's documents (read certificates), well, just everything. Panic, what to do, I got a computer guy out who couldn't retrieve much either. It was just gone. I was devestated, and the reason this guy told me mine had gone is that Windows 7 has a tendency to do that - well why the heck wasn't I told. Too late.

So, the very next day I ran out and bought a… Continue

Hereditree Australian Genealogy Programme

Posted on September 5, 2009 at 4:30pm 0 Comments

Hi I live in Australian, and thus to find a gen prog that is made here is a bonus. Yes it allows same sex couples, it's very BASIC, a clean look to it. You see you, your partner, siblings, children (and the number of children THEY have), your parents and grandparents ALL ON THE ONE SCREEN. You double click on someone to edit, you can add photos, and it's kind of the quickest way I've found to add photos. You have sources, and facts and notes and so on. Have a look, you can try for nothing, you… Continue

I do see several Abraham / Abram Isaac(s) listed for NY, guess that's a common name.

Any time .. I've never actually used Legacy before but I have been checking it out. I just may download a version to see if I like it. Ideally, I'd like to buy a bunch of used programs, just to get the best of all the different programs out there for genealogy. Hopefully Legacy will work out. I've been hearing excellent things!

From what I've been told (and I'll be able to tell you first hand in August when I get the program myself) Family Tree Maker does allow you have same sex couples.
I really feel that them saying it's "too difficult" is their way of saying they don't approve. Ancestry.com allows you do it (as I have done it) so FTM shouldn't be a problem since it's by the same people.
The program I am currently using, Family Historian, doesn't allow same sex couples either. You can put them down as "acquaintances" but that isn't enough. And I can't put both partners down as the parents of their children together, which bothers me to no end.
Anyhow, FTM is the way to go if you want to be able to do same sex couples, especially with children.
Hope this helps!
